2. Discussion and Research
When coming up with ideas for the short film coming up with a location to shoot the
film was important. The location should be something that audiences can easily
relate to and it should fit the tone of the film.
After the groups initial brainstorm the first location we planned to film at was Canary
Wharf. This was later changed because of the difficulties faced when filming at
Canary Wharf because it is privately owned getting permission to film in this
location was time consuming and delayed filming. Also filming at Canary Wharf
meant that we would have to travel a long distance which was costly as we paid for
our actors travel by train. The distance of Canary Wharf meant that by the time we
made it to Canary Wharf it was dark and we had a limited amount of time to film.
We decided to choose to film around Ilford this was because we did not necessarily
need permission to film in Ilford except when we filmed in the Car Park. Ilford was
easily accessible for us to shoot the film at because travel was free and it was a
short distance after school. After going to Ilford to scout the location we were able
to picture of the film would play out from beginning to end. The roads in Ilford
were linked well enough to get from the train station to the car park with minimal
interference from the public. The only problem faced with filming in Ilford was the
fact that it was dangerous at the times we were going to be out there filming.
3. Location 1
Ilford Station
Ilford Station will serve as the first location of the film.
We chose this location because the audience it’s a
familiar sight for audiences as it is a station this an
exterior shot of the station itself. We chose to use a
train station because it implied that the protagonist
had arrived at the station in search of something in the
town, when we had not shown the journey.
The exterior of the train station will be the backdrop of
the conversation between the protagonist and the his
superior and it will also begin the pursuit of the
protagonist by the antagonist. The interior of the train
station will be used to shoot the protagonist walking
out of the train station using an over the shoulder shot.
The problem with filming in this location is that it is
always in use by the public so time is of the essence as
each take will be different with different people.
Another problem created by filming in this location is
the we did not have permission to film there, so
filming was done without the knowledge of the station
attendants.
4. Location 2
Bodgers Lane
This location was chosen because it led to a
alleyway which we would link to a separate
location. The alleyway would be the setting of the
beginning of the chase. We felt that it would be a
great place to start the chase as the obvious
connotation of walking into a dim lit place looking
back to see someone follow could be executed well
here. This location was also choosing because it
linked well with our next location which meant we
had more time to spend on the ending of the film.
We faced a couple of problems when going to film
in this location because it was in use a lot waiting
for it to empty out then start to film was time
consuming. We had to film many times because we
were interrupted by unexpected pedestrians.
5. Location3
Ilford Town Centre
This location will feature the brunt of the
chase as the characters draw close to
reaching there destination. The road itself
was quite long but we chose it because of
the length which meant we were able to film
a lot of different shots.
The problems faced while filming in this
location was members of the public
interrupting film. We were filming around a
lot of retail shops which meant people were
in and out a lot.
6. Location 4
Car Park
This location will be the setting of the backdrop of the finale of the film. We chose
the car park because it seemed like the ideal location for a character to drop an item
waiting to be picked up. The car park was also chosen because we could use the
prop gun without causing any problems or scaring members of the public because
the top floor of the complex was secluded. The car park was well lit up in places so
we did not experience any lighting problems. The design of the car park also meant
that each floor was the same except for the cars packed in them.
We did face some problems when filming in the car park we did not have permission
to film there so we were against the clock to film quickly each day we spent
shooting the film there. Although the car park itself is largely secluded the first floor
is very much active so filming the characters initial entry into the building was
problematic.
