3. Why PR and Public Affairs?
Looking after your reputation makes business sense.
Ultimately, everything else depends on it.
PR and public affairs are essential tools that enable you
to communicate clearly with the people you need to be
speaking and listening to. By building goodwill and
trust, you’re safeguarding your bottom line.
Making sure you’re heard above the crowd is even
more important in tough economic times. By
showcasing your expertise, getting your name noticed
and adopting the right approach to the political
environment, you’ll ensure you’re one of the
organisations that not only survives but thrives.
4. Our services
Media relations: We have the creative flare to
plan and implement eye-catching campaigns
that deliver measurable results across print,
online and broadcast media. By keeping
constantly abreast of the news agenda and
making full use of our excellent media contacts,
we can make sure your story is one that
journalists want to write.
Communications audit and strategy: We can
assess how your key stakeholders perceive you,
whether you’re getting your message across,
what’s working and what isn’t. Then we’ll help
you use that information to fine tune your
message and deliver a communications strategy
targeted at the right people and using the right
channels at the right time.
5. Our services
Reputation management: Building a good reputation requires
careful relationship management so you become seen as a reliable
source of sound information and advice. Our approach is designed
to build your credibility to a point where your stakeholders start to
approach you as recognised experts in your field.
Crisis management: As well as working to build your credibility, we
can put in place the thorough and resilient crisis plan needed to put
you on the front foot when your reputation is at risk. Our approach
to crisis management is designed to ensure stakeholders receive
accurate and timely information in the event that things go wrong.
Public and community engagement: We have a wealth of
experience in planning and implementing strategies designed to
build positive long-term relationships with local communities and
the public. Whether you’re bringing forward a planning application
or exploring a new product or service, we can help you stimulate
community involvement and mobilise public support.
6. Our services
Political campaigns: We can help you identify and target key
decision-makers, craft and deliver a compelling message, and
exert real influence over the political process using face-to-
face meetings, background briefings and themed events.
Relationship building: Through carefully targeted contact
programmes backed up with tailored communications advice,
we get you in front of the people you need to win over to
ensure success.
Monitoring, analysis and research: We provide regular
bulletins and briefings to update you on those political or
media developments that are directly relevant to you. We
have the insight and experience to root out the facts and
figures you’ll need to give your message real resonance with
the people who matter.
7. The management team
Alex Orr MCIPR – Managing Director
Alex has extensive experience in developing
communications strategies for complex and often
controversial projects. This includes high-profile
campaigns such as introducing the smoking ban and
promoting the London 2012 Olympic bid in Scotland.
Alex has worked with many big brands and led a
successful, award-winning campaign to retain
exemptions from water charges for churches and
charities. Alex also has considerable expertise in
community engagement for residential, commercial
and wind farm developments. He recently led a
successful campaign to secure planning permission
for Scotland’s first commercial gold and silver mine
for more than 500 years.
8. The management team
Alex Bruce MCIPR – Director
Alex’s communication experience spans the public
and private sectors and in-house and agency roles. He
has worked as a senior political policy adviser at the
European Parliament and as UK head of government
relations for General Motors. In both roles, he has
successfully managed sensitive political negotiations
and implemented high profile media launches.
In Scotland, Alex has secured extensive print and
broadcast media coverage, helped achieve planning
permission for major developments and influenced
public policy on behalf of clients spanning
construction, renewable energy, skills, life sciences,
the legal profession and the third sector.
9. The management team
Graeme Downie MCIPR – Director
Over more than a decade in communications,
Graeme has worked for the Scottish Government and
subsequently agency-side in London and Brussels,
representing a broad range of clients. In Scotland,
Graeme has worked with clients spanning
telecommunications, renewable energy, construction
and sports. He advised Scottish Rugby Union as part
of their successful campaign to permit the
responsible sale of alcohol at home internationals at
Murrayfield.
Graeme was previously head of communications in
Scotland and Northern Ireland for innovation charity
Nesta, working in areas including public services and
economic growth, giving him excellent political and
media contacts.
10. How we work
Through exhaustive communication audits and background
research, we help our clients communicate the right message to the
right people at the right time, using the most effective channels.
We help our clients to be seen and heard in the media for the right
reasons.
We help to amplify their voice with politicians and decision-makers.
And we help them identify the organisations and individuals that
matter most to their success and to build positive long-term
relationships.
We are also on hand to help organisations when things go
wrong, to manage crises and help them turn things around.
Above all, we use our creativity, skills and experience to give each
campaign the edge it needs to ensure success.
11. What makes us different?
You’ll find communications consultants with a good nose for
what makes a good story. You’ll find others who know the ins
and outs of politics, who to talk to and when. You might even
find companies who can help you engage at the most local
level. But there are very few able to combine these skills into a
seamless, integrated strategy spanning both PR and public
affairs.
That’s where we excel. The Orbit Communications team brings
an unrivalled breadth of skills, experience and contacts
spanning politics, business, the media and the
communications industry itself.
Coupled with the analytical skills to cut through complex
issues and focus on what’s really important, we’re able to
offer our clients that added extra that will get them the result
they’re looking for.
