5. Counter Piracy and Yacht Security
Maritime piracy continues to plague our seas and remains a potent threat to the maritime domain. Piracy is prevalent in many
parts of the world including the Gulf of Guinea, Indian Ocean, Gulf of Aden, the Malacca Straits and other parts of South East Asia.
Ships coming under attack from heavily armed and well organised pirate gangs are becoming more commonplace. Ships crews
have been held hostage for ransom and some seafarers have even been killed.
All the team is well experienced in counter piracy operations around the world and has the ability to provide a sophisticated
maritime security service to protect vessels passing through hostile seas. From the latest technology to evade attack, to a private
team of experts who integrate into the vessels crew to provide 24 hour protection, YRM will provide your security solution.
Recommended by captains globally, the team understands how important teamwork is, and security officers are chosen for their
people skills and ability to integrate into a close nit team as well as their security experience.
Counter piracy / terrorist services include:
• Consultancy services
• Providing armed or unarmed embedded security teams
• Ship protection measures / vessel hardening
• Monitoring services
• Citadel advice
• Crew training
• Maritime intelligence
• Threat analysis
Through experience and expertise Intrepid Risk will ensure a smooth transit through some of the world’s most dangerous waters.
Yacht Risk Management understands the benefits of building long term relationships and continually works with its clients to
assess their on-going security needs.
6. Maritime Intelligence
The provision of intelligence reports provides valuable and up to date information to ships Masters who may
have concerns about entering an area of high risk. Main Raise Yachting and His Team has the ability to provide
timely intelligence reports regarding the latest regional security threats.
The use of historical and existing data ensures that our intelligence reports will highlight the geographical areas
that are most at risk thereby providing valuable assistance with detailed route planning where there may be a
threat to the vessel’s security.
We provides this service in combination with our other maritime security services or as a stand-alone package.
There may be cases where having an embedded security team on board the vessel is not possible. Regardless,
additional measures can be implemented that allow the vessel to be permanently monitored from a shore based
facility on a 24/7 basis.
A UK based operational centre has the capability to permanently track and monitor a client’s vessel anywhere
on the globe. The operational team can provide further reassurance with the ability to:
• Respond to SSAS alerts
• Provide localised intelligence reports and alerts prior to and during a vessel’s transit involving regional
piracy/maritime crime
• Monitoring of the yacht on a 24/7 basis
• Response ashore to any emergencies
• Provide daily updates on piracy incidents should they occur
• Provide real time assistance and advice to the Master should any piracy/maritime crime incident occur
while the ship is in the area
• Assist in crisis management if required
• Liaise with local authorities if required
Main raise Yachting with MRY Service understands the benefits of building long term relationships and
continually works with its clients to assess their on-going security needs.
7. Maritime Security – Stowaway Searches
The issue of stowaways is as prevalent today as it has ever been. Migrants in search of a better life
continue to risk their lives by ‘stowing away’ on board private and commercial vessels. Despite the
introduction of the ISPS Code, STCW proficiency in designated security duties and security awareness
training, statistics highlight the seriousness of the stowaway problem and demonstrate the issue is
deteriorating.
Stowaways present a number of problems to a vessel and crew not least the risk of violence and fines
or penalties imposed by port authorities. The average cost to the ship owner per stowaway is in the
region of US$ 8,000 with costs in some cases running significantly higher.
Undoubtedly, the best tactic for stowaways is to prevent them from coming on board in the first place.
However, if they are found on board they need to be disembarked as soon as possible.
Intrepid Risk Management provides designated search teams and equipment that can conduct a
thorough and comprehensive stowaway search prior to the vessel’s departure. Upon completion, a
report will be made to the Master declaring that no stowaways are on board.
Intrepid Risk Management understands the benefits of building long term relationships and continually
works with its clients to assess their on-going security needs.
