2009 HR focus ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],OPTIMIZING YOUR ORGANIZATION IN 2009 January Issue I 2009 ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],2008 was a wake-up call for most of us and will challenge you to have the right controls and infrastructure in place to avoid a “mudslide” in 2009.  How do you help your people cope and succeed?. How will key players understand what motivates your important business and tough business decisions? 2009 Merit Increase Budgets Original survey data for 2009 indicated that average merit budgets would be around 3.71% (Source BLR).  This was based on smaller companies (<100 employees) showing and 4.1% level for merits and larger companies (>500 employees) coming in at around 3.6%.  Current economic conditions show that about 38% of companies will continue with this level of increase, 29% will cut this number by less than 1% and 27% will cut the number by more than 1%.  6% of companies will freeze base  pay for 2009. Turnover: 2009 Turnover not a big worry for you in 2009?  People are worried about keeping their jobs, not looking for new jobs. This is the time for employers to take the high road and work with and appreciate employees. What are your plans for communicating the company benefits programs in 2009?  Given that the cost of employee benefits can run between 20-20 pecent of salary, most CEO’s I know want to know that employees understand and appreciate the value of what is provided.  Communications can run from emails talking about the company contributions to a mid-year benefits summaries.  We will be doing mid-year meetings about our company benefits off cycle from the normal renewal cycle.  This is a good time to make sure your employees are reminded of the value of these programs.
