Android OS is primarily designed for Smartphones & Tablets.
It is developed by the Open Handset Alliance.
Open Handset Alliance is a large group of mobile service providers & Manufactures
around the world.
It is based on Linux Kernel.
Available in 46 Languages.

3. History:-
Android Inc. was initially founded by Andy Rubin, Rich Miner, Nick Sears, and Chris White
in October 2003.
Android was sold to Google in 2005.
Android was first introduced to the public in 2007.
T-Mobile G1 is the World’s 1st Android Phone with its 1st version of Android Alpha.
Android applications can be developed on the following operating systems:
Windows XP or later versions
Mac OS X or later versions
Linux

Familiar Language, Familiar Development Environments:-
Android applications are normally programmed in Java and run with the Dalvik Virtual
Machine (DVM)
Developers have several choices when it comes to integrated development
environments (IDEs). Many developers choose the popular and freely available Eclipse
IDE to design and develop Android applications.
Android applications are bundled into an Android package (.apk) via the Android Asset
Packaging Tool (AAPT).

Google Play brings together all your favourite movies, TV shows, books, music, magazines,
apps, and more in one place.
A “Free Market” for Applications:-
Android developers are free to choose any kind of revenue model they want. They can
develop freeware, shareware applications and paid applications.
