6. With the digipak, what I am attempting to achieve is an effect and emotion in which
the audience can infer that the approach the band is attempting to take with the
album is one of mystery and creepiness, however still keeping things as light
hearted as possible. Though the band are a duo, Maria takes the part as the lead
singer, therefore her involvement is more obvious, and she tends to be the more
noticed one from fans due to this. As a result, with the digipak I am going to have
more images of Maria, in order for the audience to recognize the band quicker and
easier. From other digipaks that I have analyzed, I have realized that simplicity is key,
therefore I am going to attempt to keep my own digipak as simple as possible,
however without it being boring. The way I have shown this with the pictures from
the digipak shoot is that a lot of the shots are just of the girls faces, however they
have creepy make-up drawn on their faces which consists of dead roses and a lot of
branches, attempting to bring out the element of creepiness, whilst also linking to
the band’s name ‘The 12 Roses’ and also linking to the specific singles in the album,
as each of their videos either does or will feature facial paint on the performers. The
use of separate pictures for the girls as oppose to pictures of them together is an
attempt to show them as individuals, something which I have notices to be common
to albums of bands. Whilst the whole digipak will not consist of simply the artists
faces, it will be the dominant feature as it is an attempt for the audience to see
them as well as being slightly creep (which is one of the themes of the album), but
as just ordinary people also.
