2. Located in the heart of Micronesia, Kosrae Village is a dive and eco-lodge
specializing in sustainable travel. While here guests can spend the day taking
advantage of their PADI 5-star dive program, scuba diving or snorkeling some of
the world’s most pristine coral reefs, learning traditional crafts from local
artisans, exploring the rainforests, or simply relaxing on the crowd-free beaches.
Owners Bruce, Katrina, and Madison welcome travelers to experience the
beauty and tranquility of Kosrae and Kosrae Village.
3. Traditional Kosrae
Imagine waking to the sweet sound of bird songs.
Your eyes open to the scene of a tropical paradise; a
palm thatched cottage and window views of the
crowd-free beach.
Accommodations at Kosrae Village are traditionally
constructed Kosrean cottages, or lohms, nestled
beneath a canopy of coconut and pandanus trees.
Lohms reflect the sustainable building practices used
by the local population for centuries. While lohms are
traditional in construction and style, modern amenities
have been added for the comfort of guests. In the
evenings, paths between the lohms and other resort
buildings are lit by candlelight.
4. 5 Star Diving
Kosrae Village and Sleeping Lady Divers offer guests the
opportunity to explore a wealth of underwater worlds through
scuba, snorkeling, and free diving. With dive sites found all
around the island, there is a fit for every level and ability. For a
good beginner spot, with colorful reef fish, turtles, and octopi,
try Walung Coral Gardens or Hiroshi Point. Advanced divers
can find resident schools of barracuda, rainbow runners, and
spotted eagle rays at Walung Dropoff or Shark Island. Divers
interested in history and marine archaeology, can explore
multiple WWII plane wrecks, a 19th century whaler, and pirate
ship. Regardless of location, the sights of Kosrae’s underwater
worlds display pristine ecosystems found few places in the
world.
Kosrae Village is a PADI 5 Star Dive Center, offering first time
divers and those needing a skills refresher, safe classes for
working on skills.
5. Island Adventures
More adventures wait inland. Guests can paddle
kayaks and outrigger canoes through mangrove
channels, watch for tropical birds and butterflies while
trekking the rainforest, discover ancient archaeological
ruins and WWII relics, or learn about weaving and
carving from local artisans.
For a quiet day on the beach, guests can explore the
tide pools, play in the surf, or catch a catnap in the
sand.
Imagine a true escape from the stress, technology, and
urban noise of daily life and experience a pristine
paradise.
6. Reef Protection Projects
Kosrae Village has partnered with OceanEarth to protect,
preserve, and monitor the pristine hard coral reefs around the
island. Multiple programs have been launched as part of the
Reef Protection Project. Programs include:
•Coral Monitoring: This annual project brings together
volunteers from around the world survey the health and
marine life around the reefs.
•Mooring Buoys: 56 mooring buoys were installed to provide
an alternative to destructive anchoring practices on over 43
miles of reef.
•Kosrae Reef Protection Community Action Committee:
Created to bring more local involvement to reef preservation,
this group has worked to establish marine protected areas
around the island.
7. People and Culture of Kosrae
Guests always receive a warm welcome from the local
people of Kosrae.
When Europeans arrived on Kosrae in the early 19th
century, they discovered a complex feudal society.
Remnants of the buildings once inhabited by the King
and royal court can still be found on the small island of
Lelu. Visitors to Kosrae can explore Lelu and other
archaeological ruins of ancient Kosrae.
Kosraean traditions of weaving, canoe building, fishing,
and choral singing remain a large part of modern society.
Kosrae Village staff and tour guides are local residents,
who enjoy sharing their knowledge and culture.

10. A Bit of Background
Kosrae Village was dreamed up by Californians
Katrina Adams and Bruce Brandt and local Kosraen,
Madison Nena. What started with a scuba diving trip
through Micronesia, blossomed into the realization of
a post-kids dream to run a diving operation in a
tropical locale. Since opening in 1994, Kosrae
Village has expanded to include 8 lohms, a PADI 5
star dive program, the island’s top restaurant, and
home base for the annual Coral Monitoring Project.
