permit of CHP imported into Singapore

CHP TRADENET® PRODUCT
CATEGORIES

General Description of Product Categories
• Chinese Proprietary Medicines
– Medicinal products used in the system of therapeutics according to the
traditional Chinese method, that is to say, any medicinal product —
a) which has been manufactured into a finished product;
b) which contains one or more active substances derived wholly from any
plant, animal or mineral, or any combination thereof; and
c) which is, or all of the active substances of which are, described in the
current edition of “A Dictionary of Chinese Pharmacy” <<中药大辞典>> or
“The Chinese Herbal Medicine Materia Medica” <<本草纲目>>,
but does not include —
i. any medicinal product to be administered by injection into a human body;
or
ii. any medicinal product which contains as an active substance any chemically-
defined isolated constituent of any plant, animal or mineral, or any
combination thereof;
– Product imported local sale, supply and distribution or for local assembly for local
sale and distribution should be listed with HSA and importer is a licensed CPM
importer.

• Traditional Medicines
– Medicinal products containing one or more substances derived from
natural sources (e.g. plants) in finished dosage forms and are used
according to traditional Malay medicine, Jamu or traditional Indian
medicine (e.g. Ayurveda, Unani)
• Health Supplements
– Products that are used to supplement a diet, with benefits beyond those
of normal nutrients, to support or maintain healthy body functions
(contain vitamins, minerals, amino acids, plant/botanical extracts)
presented in small unit doses i.e. capsules, tablets, softgels, syrups, etc.

• Homoeopathic Medicines
– Medicinal products containing ingredients documented in established
homoeopathic references and are used according to the principles of
homoeopathic medicine.
• Traditional medicinal materials
– Medicinal materials from plants, animals, or minerals in their natural
states or have undergone simple processing such as cutting, drying or
grinding. Traditional medicinal materials includes materials as those
used in traditional Chinese medicine, traditional Indian medicine,
traditional Malay medicine or herbal medicines in other countries.

• Medicated oil and balms & medicated plasters
– Medicated oil and balms are external medicated embrocation,
medicated cream, ointment or inhalant —
a) which is used mainly for soothing purposes; and
b) which contains one or more of the following substances as an active
ingredient or as active ingredients:
any essential oil; any fixed oil derived from a plant; methyl salicylate;
menthol; camphor; peppermint;
– Medicated plasters - Medicinal products containing active traditional
medicinal materials on adhesive material to be applied to the skin.
• Medicated beverages
– Medicinal products in liquid form containing active traditional medicinal
materials that is consumed and presented as a beverage

Intended Purpose of Import
• For local sale and supply – Products intended for sale, supply or
distribution in Singapore
• For re-export – Products imported are for subsequent re-exporting to
another country/destination and not for local sale, supply or distribution
• For personal import – Products imported for personal use only and not for
sale, supply and distribution. Usually less than 3 months supply.
• For local manufacturing/assembly/re-packing – Raw materials or bulk
products manufactured in another country and imported into Singapore for
manufacturing purpose or for further processing or assembly (e.g.
packaging into bottles).
• For other purposes (not for local sale and supply, re-export,
manufacture/assembly/re-packing, and personal consumption) – For
purposes other than local sale and supply, re-export,
manufacture/assembly/re-packing, and personal import

information and re-classify products if deemed necessary
• Companies may obtain HSA advice on product
classification of CHP by submitting an enquiry to CHPB
at least one month before import. Please refer to the link

• Cargo-clearance permit does not amount to an approval
