This document provides guidance on building stories, characters, and worlds for fantasy and science fiction genres. It discusses the differences between fantasy and science fiction, knowing your audience, and a three step process for development: 1) Starting with an idea through creating a logline, 2) Developing characters by exploring their backstories and motivations, and 3) Bringing the world to life through maps, cultures, flora/fauna, and governments. The goal is to create emotionally engaging stories by first establishing great characters in believable settings.
