I am going to talk about voice projection and its importance to speak and be heard
I am going to talk about voice projection and its importance in our field. I will be answering the five W’s and for good measure I will throw in the how. Hopefully by the time I am through you will have a good understanding of voice projection and enough knowledge to begin using it
Voice projection is about having the skills to adjust your volume level to enable your audience to hear you clearly regardless of where they are seated. Think of your voice as having a volume knob with five settings 1. Whisper 2. Soft 3. Conversational 4. Loud and 5. Yelling You always want to use the 2nd, 3rd and 4th. You don’t want to whisper or yell because it will put strain on your voice.
Once properly trained you will learn to adjust you projection to suite the size of your surroundings. I am standing in a small circle. If I project my voice just to fill this area, this is what I will sound like . But if I want to speak to the furthest row in this class (take the thread and ask someone to hold it and send your voice to cover the area. Thank you
Voice projection is an essential tool for people pursuing a career in public speaking, lecturing, singing and acting . So it is very important for those of you who want to pursue a career in facilitation.
Besides the obvious reason that your audience need to hear you, a good voice projection can show s elf confidence. It is warmer and more pleasant to listen to. And you can talk for hours without straining your voice. On the other hand, lack of voice projection may be viewed as unconsciously trying to hold yourself back , inhibit their your-expression, or stifle yourselves.
When do you need to project your voice? I hope you are able to answer the question on your own by now. The answer is any time you are speaking ?
Voice projection is much easier than you think. Probably most of you are doing it but are not aware of it. The best way to describe voice projection is to imagine a sling shot . Does everyone know what a sling shot is? It is a hand-powered projectile weapon. The forked Y-shaped handle has two rubber strips attached leading back to a pocket for holding the projectile . Ok so let’s associate the sling shot with the body parts.
