1. Cast, Costume, Prop and Location Analysis
Cast
With our cast we followed some of the horror movie conventions. The lead character,
Sam is a girl (final girl) which is common of horror movies she is also a virginal, geek
who is always good she also has a unisex name like many other lead girls in horror
movies (i.e. Sidney in Scream). There is also her promiscuous best friend Ava who is
overtly sexy and flirty, in horror movies the ‘slutty’ girl is always the first to die, so
we incorporated this into our trailer. Then we have Ava’s boyfriend Jared and
Michelle, we wanted the majority of characters to be girls.
Costume
Sam’s costume is going to be very modest and conservative to coincide with her
character and personality. Ava is going to be wearing provocative sexy clothes. The
rest of the characters will be wearing modern, contemporary clothes that are common
amongst teenagers.
Props
We obtained this image of an Ouija board from Google
and decided to use it in out trailer. This is because it will
look more realistic than if we tried to make a real Ouija
board out of cardboard. With this, all we need are some
playing cards and some candles for it to look both
realistic and create an eerie, mysterious and suspenseful
atmosphere.
The other props we are using are cigarettes and alcohol. These are
common things that are related with teenagers of this age. So to make it
realistic and relevant we decided to have shots with the teenagers
smoking and drinking.
2. Naima’s character Sam has a handheld camera which we used to shoot the hand-held
scenes of the trailer. Since our trailers is a mix of scream and the Blair witch project
we needed to incorporate the hand-held element into out trailer. Sam is holding it in
the scenes that we shoot with a steady camera. It also highlights
how youths today are very technologically savvy.
Location
The trailer is going to be set in the school; a school is where children are meant to feel
safe, and is a place where they are educated and nurtured. So we thought it would be
effective for it to be the setting for them to be tormented. Also our target audience is
teenagers and since many of them go to school they can also relate to the teenagers in
the trailer. Also the Victorian style of the school creates an eerie scary atmosphere
which is perfect for the trailer. We are shooting in the long dark corridors, the attic
and the gym which is big and very dark.
