• “Jolli” refers to the
country’s biggest
fast food chain
• “jeep” is what its
owners used to
haul their home-
cooked goodies
3. How it started..
• Showed up during the 80s
• A number of enterprising manangs (old ladies) brought
their bilao (the round Filipino tray of woven rattan) of
home-cooked meals to Ayala Avenue
• Constantly shooed away by the traffic aides, they
retreated to the side streets and marked these as their
new territory.
• Then one of them made enough to purchase a
dilapidated jeepney, which served as both
transportation and store space
• Soon, every manang had a jeepney, which was quickly
branded by customers as Jollijeep
4. Continued…
• The Ayala Land through its MACEA and the
Makati government, took notice and thought
that the Jollijeep “chain” had become an
eyesore, with all the trash lying around the
side streets and unhygienic
• Soon enough both sectors agreed to regulate
and institutionalize the food chain
• 127 stalls were put up to be operated only by
Makati residents
