8. MUSICA E FOLKLORE IN CIOCIARIA
tradizionali.
MUSIC AND FOLKLORE IN CIOCIARIA
Ciociaria is a land of festivals to gastronomic character and other
traditional festivals of various kinds that represent the will of the
people to preserve intact the authenticity of their culture expressed by
the rites, the food, the music and traditional costumes.
9. Il Salterello ciociaro
Name given in sec. XVI to a quick dance in 6/8 or 3/8 time, which generally followed the
pavana or other dance at the same time. In Tabulaturbuch Bernhard Schmidt (Strasbourg
1577) there are dances with the indication "passomezzo comun with its pop-up". Similarly in
the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book is a "Galiarda Passamezzo" by Peter Philips (dated 1592),
consisting of ten movements of eight bars, the last of which is titled "Saltarella". So in the
second book of F. Caroso da Sermoneta, ladies Nobility (Venice 1600), the ballet Laura Soave
contains a pawl 48 beats. In modern times the pawl means a dance of the Roman countryside
in general and especially in Ciociaria. It has the same ancient rhythm, and is performed by
couples or groups of people holding laced with his arms on his shoulders, the slightly curved
bodies forward and their heads almost touching the center of the group. This position ensures
that the bodies do not jump at the ends which slide instead on the ground almost without
staccarvisi never giving the impression of a soft, smooth motion. The pawl ciociaro
characteristic is precisely this sway. The latch is danced usually outdoors, the farmyards,
especially in summer, in the evening, after the threshing of wheat or husking corn. It is
accompanied by the sound of the accordion, and often he also dances player upon himself to
groups to energize the dance. The finale of Mendelssohn Italian dellaSinfonia contains two
themes of pawl.
10. Il Salterello ciociaro
Nome dato nel sec. XVI a una danza rapida in tempo 6
/8 o 3
/8 che seguiva generalmente la
pavana o altra danza in tempo pari.
Ciociaria in specie.
11. The traditional instruments
The organ is one of the most celebrated musical instruments
of the folk tradition. Its sound welcomes festivals and village
evenings for many years. Play it is an art, as well as build it. It
retains a wide circulation within the more traditional societies,
especially in the hilly and mountainous areas. It 'an
instrument similar to the accordion, but the more complicated
operation. It has a diatonic keyboard to both hands. A pressed
key emits different notes depending on whether the bellows is
in compression or expansion. This double movement is
usually performed vigorously and quickly when playing the
pawl, traditional dance ciociaro.?Il type of wood used for the
construction barrel organ, in its outer parts, it is seasoned
solid except for celluloid models . Usually prefers the
European cherry or the American one and the Calabrian or
American walnut. The supporting internal sound parts are
beech and stringers and soniere are spruce; for the most
prestigious models using the olive tree and spruce from Val di
Fiemme.
Organetto
saltarello, ballo tradizionale ciociaro.
i modelli in celluloide.

13. The bagpipe has very ancient origins that date back to the
euro - Asian peoples to whom is attributed the reed
technology. In historical times it can refer to the Egyptians ,
the Greeks and of course the Romans who contributed so
much to its spread . It can be assumed that a driving force ,
even at that time , was precisely the Ciociaria . This tool
survives even today in many European and Italian areas .
From a morphological point of view it has quite different
characteristics . It has from one to three buttons that
produce the typical fixed notes ; one or more pens , also
called chantares ( according to English terminology ) , on
which it performs the melody , and finally a leather bag or
rubber and in some cases of gore - tex , which constitutes
the reserve of air , thanks to which you can play with
continuity. The sound source is given by the reeds that ,
depending on the model , can be double or simple .
zampogna
In

15. The Ciaramella is considered folk oboe and is a popular tool in the
cuisine here. It is part of the traditions of Lazio, Molise, Campania,
Lucania, Calabria.
This tool is a double-reed aerophone, with conical and very flared bell
drilling. It is built, as a rule, by specialized craftsmen turners that build
bagpipes. ? The most used woods are: olive, wild olive, maple,
boxwood, various fruit trees.
In most cases the ciaramella uses the double reed. To put it on
vibrate the player must hold her lips firmly, being able to also act on it
with the language to get the various effects of the attack and
staccato.
The shawm can be played solo, accompanying jacks and ballarelle,
or together with the bagpipe, creating one of the most famous and
ancient instrumental ensemble of the Italian musical folklore
Ciaramella
Lazio, Molise, Campania, Lucania, Calabria.
conica e campana molto svasata.

The hammer is part of the family of idiophones percussion.
It consists of a small, thin wooden board on the lower
surface of which frame is a handle while on the upper part
are hinged, in various ways, one or more clappers in the
form of a hammer head. Holding the tool by the handle and
shaking it from side to side, you get the percussion
hammer against the table.
Martelletto
caratteristico suono.
It belongs to the family of friction drums and cuto-cuto are also
told. The sound is emitted by vibrating the skin by rubbing a
bamboo pole. The end of the rod is carefully inserted and tied
in a hole formed at the center of the membrane. Rubbing the
barrel of bamboo from the top down (by hand or with a damp
cloth or a wet sponge), will induce vibrations in the skin which,
amplified from the air contained in the harmonic order (pan,
wooden tub or tin cylinder ), producing the characteristic
sound.

centro-meridionali.
The instrument has spread around the basin of the
southern Mediterranean; in Italy it is especially in the
central and southern regions.
It is the main rhythm instrument in the traditional repertoires
of central and southern Italy. The techniques and playing
styles vary from place to place and not necessarily in
continuity with the modern regional boundaries, as well as
the constructive elements and the characteristics of the
sound.
