Welcome, Agenda & Project overview
PARTNERS
Objectives
Build an open consolidated ecosystem and single community that will lower the
barriers of SMMEs for cognitive automation application development and
application of autonomous manufacturing processes.
1. To allow the interaction and interworking of the heterogeneous communications and
networking technologies necessary to support the ubiquitous connectivity of CPPS.
2. To avoid “data deluge” to decision makers so that they are able to dynamically
understand what is the relevant information for at a specific point in time, and make sure
only relevant data is presented to them.
3. To obtain a business development framework as a service for automation which deals
with intelligent decision support for strategic automation of factories driven by Robotics,
investment analysis tools and automation assessment frameworks.
4. To fit the multi-disciplinary needs of SME industry which find it really difficult to access to
heterogeneous isolated technologies. I4MS has been very successfully in setting up top
competence centres and innovation hubs for SMEs to developed and assess advanced
solutions in those fields. However, the implementation of cognitive factories and
automation systems, cannot and should not be tackled from an isolated technology
domain individually.

5. To link to the CPS community and embrace the TAPP concept for automation system
app-ization.
6. To guarantee a usable and intuitive access for SMEs to several European initiatives and
platforms that are developing digitalization solutions for manufacturing companies in
different areas: robotic solutions, cloudification manufacturing initiatives, CPS platforms
implementation, reconfigurable cells, etc..
7. To develop joint Proof of Concept of AUTOWARE enabled capabilities in 3 industrial pilots
facilities covering different sectors and different stages of the manufacturing and
logistics lifecycle.
8. To disseminate project’s results, educate and create awareness around the AUTOWARE
framework, tool vendors for software evolution and manufacturing industry (incl. SMEs)
for AUTOWARE manufacturing process engineering and monitoring. The objective is to
put in place proper scientific and industrial dissemination means. The objective is also to
maximise exploitation and return on investment from deployment of AUTOWARE
Industrial Data Ecosystem and Service Platforms on the basis of the innovation and STEEP
sustainability results evidenced by the AUTOWARE reference implementations.
9. To influence pre-normative and standardisation activities.

The objective of this task is to build and connect existing digital manufacturing communities
but also leverage on the solid foundation of the SME engagement methodologies
(developed in FITMAN and I4MS-Gate projects to establish the FIWARE for Industry and I4MS
multi-sided communities and development of FIWARE acceleration programme). The
methodology will leverage 5 key drivers for SME engagements in the AUTOWARE open
innovation ecosystem.

production systems, can only be reached by human operators
with their immense cognitive capabilities

4 main pillars:
▪Align the cognitive manufacturing technical enablers,
i.e. robotic systems, smart machines, cloudified control
systems, secure cloud-based planning systems and
application platform.

Digital Shopfloor Alliance
• The rapid advances in ubiquitous computational power, coupled with the
opportunities of de-localizing into the Fog/Cloud parts of an CPPS/ICT framework,
have the potential to give rise to a new generation of service-based
software-intensive industrial automation systems, whose local intelligence (for
real-time management and orchestration of manufacturing tasks) can be
dynamically linked to runtime functionalities residing in the Cloud.
• This CPPS based on real-time distributed intelligence and enhanced by functional
extensions into the Cloud, will lead to a new information-driven automation
infrastructure.
• SMEs are often constrained by factors such as time, expertise and budgetary
(cost-resource investments) constraints.
• SMEs tend to behave opportunistically driven by concerns of cost effectiveness
rather than any strategic considerations.
• Therefore, digital shopfloor automation addressing SME concerns should fully
support a mission focused approach to activities.

• A number of key factors inhibit the widespread adoption and use of CPPS/IIoT, and
these include:
• The cost of technology (deployment, maintenance and operation as well as
physical devices).
• The time needed to implement CPPS/IIoT.
• Uncertainty over the business benefits and impacts.
• Lack of relevant internal CPPS/IIoT knowledge or expertise.
• Dependence on external integrators, consultants and vendors.
• Un-reliability of systems, potentially owing to technological obsolescence and
technical complexity.
• To adopt CPPS, the benefits must outweigh investment and maintenance costs.
Digital Shopfloor Alliance
• On the demand side, the major barriers to CPPS/IIoT adoption include time and cost
constraints coupled with organizational changes for doing business derived from
CPPS/IIoT adoption or a limited CPPS/IIoT literacy-expertise of SME owners and
employees.
• On the supply side, there is a need to move from making technologies or systems
available through marketplaces and digital catalogues towards providing reliable, cost
effective integrated solutions to support small enterprises, both in terms of customized
and flexible applications.
• SMEs demand that digital automation can be provided at a cost, within short
development cycles and be easily integrated “on-demand” for mission focused purposes.
• None of the FoF-11 projects could build such attractive multi-sided market offer in
isolation, yet all the components required are available and can be accommodated under
the AUTOWARE digital automation framework, which could be transformed into a
common Digital Shopfloor Framework to be further elaborated jointly.
• Automation component providers and app developers will cover the costs of certification
on the basis of access to larger market shares with increased integration processes that
can be now realized by system integrators at more competitive (lower) costs thanks to a
more “structured” system property and behavior characterization of individual
components, systems and SoS solutions.

• The Digital Shopfloor Alliance for digital automation of SMEs could deliver the
following assets:
• A digital automation RoI analysis framework (AUTOWARE)
• A digital marketplace to aggregate IEC-61499 solutions & applications
(DAEDALUS).
• Digital automation certification framework (AUTOWARE).
• Open fog & HPC infrastructure (AUTOWARE).
• Digital automation services & development community (FAR-EDGE)
• Digital automation ledger (FAR-EDGE)
• Automation system components, robotics, control, vision
(DAEDALUS+AUTOWARE)
Digital Shopfloor Alliance
• In fact, it responds to several stakeholders’ needs (multi-sided ecosystem):
• Manufacturing SMEs can adopt digital cognitive automation systems within budget
thanks to access to digital shopfloor marketplace. Furthermore, a fast development,
experimentation and technical feasibility assessment of CPPS applications is
ensured increasing their market visibility.
• Automation and machine tool/robot providers which can incorporate open CPS
trusted platforms as part of an increased number of next generation smart
production line components and solutions after component and system
certification.
• Developers of cognitive (learning, analysis, knowledge management capability
services) and automation apps for autonomous service support can benefit from
certified deployment and well characterized performance in open fog platforms.
• Providers of cloud and HPC simulation and computation services can host the
operation of advanced cognitive services to complement edge operations.
• Integrators and solution providers can build production line solutions for SMEs and
OEMs faster and with more reliable components as this alliance provides a suitable
testing environment that ensures large scale validation of new technologies and
services, including certified solutions for data storage as well as for communication.

Objectives Build an open consolidated ecosystem and single community that will lower the barriers of SMMEs for cognitive automation application development and application of autonomous manufacturing processes. 1. To allow the interaction and interworking of the heterogeneous communications and networking technologies necessary to support the ubiquitous connectivity of CPPS. 2. To avoid “data deluge” to decision makers so that they are able to dynamically understand what is the relevant information for at a specific point in time, and make sure only relevant data is presented to them. 3. To obtain a business development framework as a service for automation which deals with intelligent decision support for strategic automation of factories driven by Robotics, investment analysis tools and automation assessment frameworks. 4. To fit the multi-disciplinary needs of SME industry which find it really difficult to access to heterogeneous isolated technologies. I4MS has been very successfully in setting up top competence centres and innovation hubs for SMEs to developed and assess advanced solutions in those fields. However, the implementation of cognitive factories and automation systems, cannot and should not be tackled from an isolated technology domain individually. Welcome, Agenda & Project overview
  • 4. Objectives (cont.) 5. To link to the CPS community and embrace the TAPP concept for automation system app-ization. 6. To guarantee a usable and intuitive access for SMEs to several European initiatives and platforms that are developing digitalization solutions for manufacturing companies in different areas: robotic solutions, cloudification manufacturing initiatives, CPS platforms implementation, reconfigurable cells, etc.. 7. To develop joint Proof of Concept of AUTOWARE enabled capabilities in 3 industrial pilots facilities covering different sectors and different stages of the manufacturing and logistics lifecycle. 8. To disseminate project’s results, educate and create awareness around the AUTOWARE framework, tool vendors for software evolution and manufacturing industry (incl. SMEs) for AUTOWARE manufacturing process engineering and monitoring. The objective is to put in place proper scientific and industrial dissemination means. The objective is also to maximise exploitation and return on investment from deployment of AUTOWARE Industrial Data Ecosystem and Service Platforms on the basis of the innovation and STEEP sustainability results evidenced by the AUTOWARE reference implementations. 9. T.6.5 The objective of this task is to build and connect existing digital manufacturing communities but also leverage on the solid foundation of the SME engagement methodologies (developed in FITMAN and I4MS-Gate projects to establish the FIWARE for Industry and I4MS multi-sided communities and development of FIWARE acceleration programme). The methodology will leverage 5 key drivers for SME engagements in the AUTOWARE open innovation ecosystem. KoM Bilbao 4 main pillars: ▪Align the cognitive manufacturing technical enablers, i.e. robotic systems, smart machines, cloudified control systems, secure cloud-based planning systems and application platform. ▪Provide a business development platform as the core element for putting together a digital business ecosystem for business-driven automation of digitalised manufacturing. ▪Extend “neutral” industrial experimentation sites accessible to all, particularly SMMEs (Smart Factory KL, JSI, Tekniker) ▪Dramatically ease the digital modelling and design of CPPS systems and couple digital models with auto- and self-configuration, validation & verification of CPPS systems. Digital Shopfloor Alliance • The rapid advances in ubiquitous computational power, coupled with the opportunities of de-localizing into the Fog/Cloud parts of an CPPS/ICT framework, have the potential to give rise to a new generation of service-based software-intensive industrial automation systems, whose local intelligence (for real-time management and orchestration of manufacturing tasks) can be dynamically linked to runtime functionalities residing in the Cloud. • This CPPS based on real-time distributed intelligence and enhanced by functional extensions into the Cloud, will lead to a new information-driven automation infrastructure. • SMEs are often constrained by factors such as time, expertise and budgetary (cost-resource investments) constraints. • SMEs tend to behave opportunistically driven by concerns of cost effectiveness rather than any strategic considerations. • Therefore, digital shopfloor automation addressing SME concerns should fully support a mission focused approach to activities.

Digital Shopfloor Alliance • A number of key factors inhibit the widespread adoption and use of CPPS/IIoT, and these include: • The cost of technology (deployment, maintenance and operation as well as physical devices). • The time needed to implement CPPS/IIoT. • Uncertainty over the business benefits and impacts. • Lack of relevant internal CPPS/IIoT knowledge or expertise. • Dependence on external integrators, consultants and vendors. • Un-reliability of systems, potentially owing to technological obsolescence and technical complexity. • To adopt CPPS, the benefits must outweigh investment and maintenance costs.

Digital Shopfloor Alliance • On the demand side, the major barriers to CPPS/IIoT adoption include time and cost constraints coupled with organizational changes for doing business derived from CPPS/IIoT adoption or a limited CPPS/IIoT literacy-expertise of SME owners and employees. • On the supply side, there is a need to move from making technologies or systems available through marketplaces and digital catalogues towards providing reliable, cost effective integrated solutions to support small enterprises, both in terms of customized and flexible applications. • SMEs demand that digital automation can be provided at a cost, within short development cycles and be easily integrated “on-demand” for mission focused purposes. • None of the FoF-11 projects could build such attractive multi-sided market offer in isolation, yet all the components required are available and can be accommodated under the AUTOWARE digital automation framework, which could be transformed into a common Digital Shopfloor Framework to be further elaborated jointly. • Automation component providers and app developers will cover the costs of certification on the basis of access to larger market shares with increased integration processes that can be now realized by system integrators at more competitive (lower) costs thanks to a more “structured” system property and behavior characterization of individual components, systems and SoS solutions.

Digital Shopfloor Alliance • The Digital Shopfloor Alliance for digital automation of SMEs could deliver the following assets: • A digital automation RoI analysis framework (AUTOWARE) • A digital marketplace to aggregate IEC-61499 solutions & applications (DAEDALUS). • Digital automation certification framework (AUTOWARE). • Open fog & HPC infrastructure (AUTOWARE). • Digital automation services & development community (FAR-EDGE) • Digital automation ledger (FAR-EDGE) • Automation system components, robotics, control, vision (DAEDALUS+AUTOWARE)

Digital Shopfloor Alliance • In fact, it responds to several stakeholders’ needs (multi-sided ecosystem): • Manufacturing SMEs can adopt digital cognitive automation systems within budget thanks to access to digital shopfloor marketplace. Furthermore, a fast development, experimentation and technical feasibility assessment of CPPS applications is ensured increasing their market visibility. • Automation and machine tool/robot providers which can incorporate open CPS trusted platforms as part of an increased number of next generation smart production line components and solutions after component and system certification. • Developers of cognitive (learning, analysis, knowledge management capability services) and automation apps for autonomous service support can benefit from certified deployment and well characterized performance in open fog platforms. • Providers of cloud and HPC simulation and computation services can host the operation of advanced cognitive services to complement edge operations. • Integrators and solution providers can build production line solutions for SMEs and OEMs faster and with more reliable components as this alliance provides a suitable testing environment that ensures large scale validation of new technologies and services, including certified solutions for data storage as well as for communication.
