Shalimar Gardens is undoubtedly a master-piece of Mughal
architecture. It was built during the reign of Shahjahan
around 1641 AD. The time spent for the construction of the
gardens is told approximately 1.5 years. Its beautiful trees,
graceful arches, flowering shrubs, magnificent pavilions and
fountains, intricate fretwork on the walls, delicate marble works
and impressive architecture have refreshing effect on its visitor.
The cost of construction of the gardens and adjacent buildings
was around 6 lakh rupees. The land area covered by the gardens is
around 80 acres.
