Document processing is an essential element of many business processes. It is a way to exchange information that richly communicates information, binding commitments, and is often a required portion of the official business record.
Cognitive capture helps to address this problem of highly variable and complex documents by using new methods to classify and extract information .
RPA provides many tangible benefits:
Accelerate time to Value: The time to create, test and deliver new automations is measured in day or weeks, not months.
Reduce human errors: Automating tasks will dramatically reduce human errors associated with copy and paste or manually entering data.
Increase throughput: Software robots run faster than humans. They do not take breaks and can run around the clock.
Decrease Development Costs: An intuitive Bot designer environment is provided that can model automation visually, without code. A powerful recorder literally builds automation by watching you work and a rich library of template activities allows you to edit and enhance the recorded automations.
The new offering has the following components within the platform which provides all the capabilities a client requires for any solution
Additional licenses can be acquired for any component of the solution
Clients always require a platform license.
If you look at the common use cases for Box, there are many within every department. But these use cases typically have things in common. External sharing and collaboration is a key use case. External sharing and collaboration is better supported by a cloud platform than it is by an on premise platform. You don’t necessarily want to give external users direct access to your secure repository internally, or add those external users into your workflow.
So Box – whether used in conjunction with one of our on prem repositories or completely stand-alone and separate – is very powerful. Let’s say your customer leads a marketing department that must collaborate with an agency. We do this internally in IBM, by the way. You’re moving lots of documents back and forth. The marketing team needs access to the most current picture. Maybe there are videos you might produce and move back and forth. Box is a very good digital asset management platform.
At some point, every customer needs to interact. All of you on the phone might need to share content and interact with customers, potential customers, leads, etcetera. If you’re a legal department, you’re going to almost certainly be working with external counsel. So, even though they may buy other legal specific applications around eDiscovery and Archival, the legal department also has collaborative content management needs that are independent of those other systems, and Box is a great platform for that. Almost every department in every industry can find use cases for box.
These are the ECM tenets which give IBM’s ECM solutions their strength.
The next 20 or so slides will expand on the details of these core tenets.
Document Management is the life blood of ECM: I’ll be describing how IBM delivers world class document management capable of supporting deployments whether they be small or large…. simple or complex.
Custom application development: The ability to customize ECM solutions is critical to many of our customers, and especially critical to our business partners. A tribute to our continued focus on this key tenet is the extensive partner ecosystem with ECM solutions built on top of the P8 environment.
ECM consolidation is very important to many of our customers, since most companies need flexible and powerful tools to deal with multiple disparate repositories.
Enterprise Manageability has been a key focus for us for years, but the new versions of FileNet CM and Content Foundation both benefit from significant leaps forward in manageability which are driving major improvements in consumability….. and detailed examples will be provided in the coming charts.
Extensive Platform Support: Our support of industry leading operating systems, databases, app servers and various other industry standards, such as HTML5, Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) and Document Information Typing Architecture (DITA) ensures that our ECM solutions will run on your existing IT infrastructure.
A Consistent & Intuitive User Experience is critical for ease-of-use and end-user productivity. Our Content Navigator User Interface supports desktop, web and mobile access, providing consistent way to access and manage your content.
Social Content management is the newest frontier in content management, and IBM is leading the way with many new social capabilities which I will be describing in detail in a few minutes.
Business Rules Management Systems (BRMS) are integrated application development and execution platforms, allowing organizations to define, deploy, monitor and maintain the variety and complexity of decision logic that is used by operational systems. BRMS allow decision logic to be extracted and managed separately from core application code, so that it can be easily understood, maintained and re-used across the organization.
By externalizing rules from application code, business experts can define and manage decision logic, reducing the amount of time and effort required to update decision logic in production systems, and increasing the organization’s ability to respond to changes in the business environment.
A BRMS includes three primary components:
A repository allowing rules to be externalized from core application code – the repository allows decision logic to be managed as an enterprise asset, making it easier to understand and update decision logic, along with consolidating decision logic from disparate applications and information silos so that it can shared and re-used across the organization.
Tools allowing business experts to define and manage decision logic that was previously buried in code. These tools give business functions the ability to define application behavior, while also providing the ability for business and IT to work collaboratively on application development and maintenance.
A runtime engine allowing production systems to access and execute decision logic managed within the BRMS – the “rule engine” allows complex and inter-related rules to be executed based on specific business context, using a combination of data inputs, sets of applicable rules, and execution algorithms that define how to process the data and rules in order to provide an output.
By adopting the BRMS approach, organizations are able to effectively deal with the problems associated with traditional embedded decision logic. The organization gains visibility and access to business rules, along with the ability to more easily define and automate them for use in their operational systems.
