ARTS COUNCIL OF MONGOLIA
ARTS
COUNCIL
OF MONGOLIA
Arts Council of Mongolia (ACM) is
an arts and culture NGO, established by
Mongolian arts, civic, and business leaders
in 2002 with the support of the Mongolian
Foundation for an Open Society (Soros
Foundation). Its mission is to support the
sustainable development of Mongolian
arts and culture and the preservation of
cultural heritage. ACM promotes artistic
excellence; preserves Mongolian cultural
heritage; promotes creativity of youth and
children; and brings arts to the public.
In 2019-2020, ACM has organized
the 12th edition of ACM Fellowship
program with support of ACM-US that
aims to enhance their leadership and arts
management skills, and promote their
collaboration. This year, the program has
involved 20 emerging young leaders from
film, visual art, performing art, cultural
heritage and media fields and enhanced
their networking and practical experience
by attending more than 22 series of trainings
on leadership, strategic planning, project
management and marketing, fundraising,
copyright and intellectual property, cultural
policy and governance.
Furthermore, the program provides
leadership and efficient teamwork skills
for its participants by providing practical
opportunity to execute joint small-scale
community service projects. ACM Fellows
granted with amount of $800 to implement
four different joint community service
projects which were aimed to encourage
arts access and arts education for youth and
community online.
The first team implemented the
“Recover old songs” project which focused
on inspiring children through creating new
technology of old children’s songs and
transmitting it to younger generations. They
have cooperated with the L.Galmandakh
Foundation. Galmandakh was a music
composer famous for his children's songs.
The project recovered three songs of
Galmandakh with a new artistic wave for
children. The songs are “The Key of the
Golden Book”, “Rainbow of the Melody”
and “Four Method Numbers”, which
educates children through the song lyrics.
The recovered songs have been published
on YouTube.
The second team implemented the "Art
& life" comic art project for public. As team
members consisted of graphic designers,
painter and writer, they developed short
stories about life in different arts fields.
The fellows introduced challenges and
highlights of the art profession through
a comic series. The project could help
increase public knowledge about the
importance of the arts and culture sector.
The third team implemented a cultural
heritage project, with aims to promote
ancient epics to younger generation.
The fellows organized meetings with
professional experts and cultural bearers to
introduce Mongolian epics for people. They
chose the famous epic about a hero named
Geser, which is one of the top three epics
of Mongolia. They visited and talked with
experts, researchers and culture-bearers of
epics, and made documentation videos and
published a podcast on social media. Also
they organized a drawing competition with
little stories of Geser for illustration artists
to create a series of posts about the legend
of Geser on Instagram. The drawings and
artworks could help to build awareness
of epic and to understand importance of
ancient cultural heritage to the public.
The fourth team implemented an art
project called “In the Art Studio”. The
project goal was to introduce young artists
and to visit art studios to promote their
artworks through social media. The fellows
have produced several series of video
documentation and published it on online
platforms. They had selected 10 emerging
artists, who have begun to be known for
their creativity and talent and have their
own art studios. The documentation videos
reached over 40000 viewers online.
In June 2020, ACM fellows graduated
and presented their results of the community
projects as mentioned above for the ACM
board, and published and promoted online.
ACM deeply appreciates the participation
of the fellows as well as the contributions
from the project partners of the ACM
Fellowship Program.

One of the main priorities
of the Arts Council of Mongolia
is to empower young people,
particularly those who live in
disadvantaged ger district areas
through providing arts and
educational access and help them
to be a competitive global citizen.
To fulfill its goal, Arts Council of
Mongolia has been implementing
the“Re-Imagine Ulaanbaatar”
community engagement program
with the support of the Asian
Development Bank (ADB) and
Ulaanbaatar City Mayor’s Office
to change people’s behavior
and attitude towards their own
communities.
Engagement by community
members is paramount for the
development of their residential
and leisure spaces as safe and
welcoming environments, for the
benefit of all residents. The idea
for the project is for local members
to monitor and communicate
with government authorities
on developing and establishing
sustainability for the future within
their own ger district.
Since its launch on May
28, 2020, the Bayankhoshuu
Sub-Center has been serving
public services, consultancy and
capacity building trainings for
community members. As part
of the community engagement,
Arts Council of Mongolia with
partnership of the Ulaanbaatar
City Mayor’s Office and support
of the Asian Development Bank,
has established “My Home”
children’s library and “My Film”
movie club for children at the
newly opened Bayankhoshuu
Sub-Center. With aim to engage
ger district community children in
creative process and to enhance
their arts education by proving
equal access, Arts Council
of Mongolia and its partners
Mongolian Library Association
and Altan Khalis NGO, together
delivered arts and educational
activities for Bayankhoshuu
residents. Over the month, the
children’s library organized
weekly book reading meetings
with guest authors and publishers
for 50 children, and served
about 100 children with daily
book lending and other library
services. Through “My Film” film
education activities, organizers
screened 6 international and
Mongolian films, and organized
movie making workshops for 100
children from the community.
Hence, the “My Home”
children’s library and its activities
will be open for every children of
ger district community to enhance
their education and access. For

With the support of Australian
Embassy in Mongolia “International
Women’s Federation of Commerce
and Industry” (IWFCI) Mongolia and
Arts Council of Mongolia (ACM) has
launched ZOOM: I am #Generation
Equality photo campaign. The
opening washeld on 27th June at WE
Co-working space for women with a
panel discussion on “Social Impact of
Creative Campaign” and followed by
a photography workshop.
ZOOM: I am #GenerationEquality
photo campaign is encouraging female
photography enthusiastic amateurs
as well professional photographers
to participate in creative process
and aims to help participants elevate
their creativity in context of human
rights. The campaign will continue
for 6 months and will consist of five
phases including training, contest,
online exhibition, selection, and public
exhibition.
Professional photography
and workshops will be held to
enhance female talents capacities.
The workshops will be held with
support of Ts.Batzorig Foundation
of Documentary Photography,
photographer Bat-Orgil and
photographer Lien Heikens from the
Netherlands. Furthermore, trainings
covering topics of human rights,
copyright matters, and the creative
industry will be held by UN advisory
consultants and other experts from
different fields. These courses should
guide participants to join the awareness
campaign more effectively. To provide
inclusion for the disabled community,
the project team is being involved
in trainings, and organizing above
mentioned trainings in partnership
with Mongolian National Association
of the Deaf with sign language
interpreters. Following the workshops,
a photo contest will be announced in
two categories: Portrait in black and
white and Storytelling in context of
“Workplace Inequality”. Portraits may
depict Role model, Heroines as well as
Discriminated object as a victim. As
the inequality issue is not only limited
to gender, participants may get creative
on the roles portrayed. The storytelling
category allows participants to apply
mixed media on their artwork to
ultimately demonstrate their idea.
Organizers are planning to organize
public exhibition with final art works
of contest finalists in conjunction with
UN Day.
Taking this opportunity, we would
like to thank all our participants,
partners and supporters. For more,
