Mongolian porcelain master
Kh.Khadkhuu opened the exhibition
‘Khiimori’ at the National Museum of
Mongolia on January 15.
The artist named the exhibition
‘Khiimori’ because he created the wind
horse with porcelain, which is a symbol
of the human soul in the shamanistic
tradition of East Asia and Central Asia.
In his seventh exhibition, the
artist displayed a total of 22 works
featuring the Mongolian nomadic
lifestyle, depicting various customs
and figures from Mongolian sheep
slaughtering, wrestling, traditional
singers, White Old Man of Tsam,
Yunden and Nansalmaa in their middle
ages to Chinggis Khaan and Mongolian
queens as well as a vase and a cup with
illustration of cave paintings. Porcelain
master Kh.Khadkhuu said “This is the
seventh of my porcelain art exhibitions
series. In this exhibition, I aimed to
show the Mongolian lifestyle, life and
the nature of law.”
Creating original designs, preparing
the clay, enameling and painting,
master Kh.Khadkhuu is the sole person
behind the works.
So far, he has created more than
1000 works for over 30 years since he
became a porcelain artist. The exhi
bition will be open until January 25 at
the National Museum of Mongolia.
Arts Council of Mongolia
(ACM)’s main goal is to promote
and advocate for the sustainable
development of Mongolian arts
and culture. Thus, in aims of
supporting young and up-coming
outstanding Mongolian artists by
exhibiting their art work and help
gain exposure on the international
platform, ACM implements the
Arts Program.
Each year, the World Wood
Day is celebrated on March 21 to
raise awareness on the importance
of wood and its key role in creating
a sustainable future.
With this year’s focus being
each artist’s interpretation of
the theme, ‘Change’, the 2019
World Wood Day International
Woodcarving Show will be taking
place at the Austrian Open-Air
Museum Stuebing on March 19-
23.
CHANGE for 2019 is to
heighten the need for awareness in
making changes for an eco-friendly
and sustainable future. It will be a
crossover between tradition and
innovation–preserving the past and
pioneering for the future–to take
action and face the challenges in
this ever-changing world.Avariety
of programs will be organized
and available for the public to be
involved, such as woodcraft acti
vities, folk art workshops, and
events for children. Furthermore,
an academic symposium, live
music performance and concerts,
designing projects, reconstruction
project as well as a tree planting
ceremony will all be included in
the event.
Once again, ACM has
collaborated with the World Wood
Day Foundation (WWDF) and
announced an open call for artists
until January 25, 2019.
Last year, by the
recommendation of ACM,
Mongolian artist Tsengel
Sayakhuu represented the
traditional art of woodcrafting at
the 2018 World Wood Day event
in Cambodia. He was then selected
by the foundation to be a part of
the live woodcarving show, which
was performed by 120 talented
artists from 70 countries.
In 2017, talented artist
Enkhtaivan Ochirbat successfully
participated in the annual event
in California, USA. Showcasing
his artworks, which exlored the
relationship between Mongolian
traditional woodcarvings and
cntemporary visual art, Enkhtaivan
also took part in the international
artistic exchange.
ACM invites artists to
participate at the World Wood
Day event in a proactive effort for
CHANGE.
Introduction
With 3 acts and 4 scenes, the ‘Endless’
ballet is about the modern city life and
society of Mongolia--the competition of
rich and poor, love and lust. This is a new
neoclassic production combining classic
ballet with the all time “love dance”-
tango. The tango-ballet is not only the
first Mongolian production about today’s
life of young people that was a rather new
addition to the repertoire of Mongolian State
Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet, but
also the first attempt to combine a different
dance style with the classical ballet.
The libretto was written by scriptwriter
and producer Munkhzul Chuluunbat,
(General director of MSATOB during Jan
2013-Jan 2018), who invited the talented
composer Altangerel Khishigtogtokh
(Winner of “Morin Khuur” music
competition) and the theater’s ballet soloist,
choreographer Erdenejargal Erdenebat
(Winner of ball dance competition) and
introduced the idea of tango-ballet. The trio
was a successful team, all inspired to create
a fresh, new, unique ballet about today’s life.
After many months of hard work and each
other’s support, the brillian new production
was ready for staging. This ballet was the
first full length ballet performance for all
three librettists.
When the production started, conductor
Munkhbold Tsetsgee joined the team after
noticing the interesting melodies of jazz
instruments, such as saxophone, in the
orchestral work of Endless.
While the production stage, with
contrasting bright and dark sides, was
designed by chief designer of MSATOB
Ganbaatar Gungaasukh, who is famous for
creating the 40K region of Ulaanbaatar city,
the costumes were designed by costume
designer of MSATOB Oyun Gungaasukh,
showcasing the wonderful combination of
tango and classical ballet.
The production was first staged on
December 6, 2014 and received high
apraisal from the audience. Having met
with huge applause every time the ballet
was performed, the artistic committee of
MSATOB highly evaluated the production
and the ballet was accepted into the
permanent repertoire of the theatre, with the
score “Good” in December 2014.
Short synopsis
In the “art street” full of poor, but artistic
people full of enthusiasm is a young street
dancer named Galt, dancing to make a
living. One day, to this street came a young
beautiful girl named Sunder accompanied
with her friends. Despite being the only
child of a rich family, Sunder is not spoiled
and simply loves to dance. The moment they
saw each other, they instantly fell in love. But
a boy named Tumur, who wants to become a
gang member, that was a childhood friend of
Sunder, was also in love with Sunder. Thus,
the love of Galt and Sunder has to overcome
many difficulties and obstacles from the side
of family and friends...
The duet of Galt and Sunder is an
amazing soft and melodic expression of
young love, that also expresses the great
professionalism of dancers, while the duet of
Tumur and Sunder is dominated by rhythm
and force.
‘Endless’tango ballet is about the tender
and harsh “love”--the endlessly repeating
story of humankind, not regarding where or
when the story takes place.
