This is a must-read for students considering entering the 2014 ADDYs. We're kicking of the 2014 ADDYs process with brand new software to help simplify the entry process. This deck will walk you through what makes a great entry, and how to use the new software.
2. Did You Know?
ADDYs originated in Miami in 1960 and was
adopted nationally in 1968
The ADDYs is the largest creative competition in
the world.
The Student ADDYs is a creative competition and
is a sub-category of the National ADDY Awards
competition.
3. Who Can Enter?
Any full-time or part-time student in an accredited US
educational institution can compete in the Student ADDYs
–
Students attending a non-accredited college may enter
the local competition, but will not be eligible to move
on to the District or National competition
Work must be created while entrant is a student not
employed in the advertising industry or its related fields
Student interns are eligible
4. Why Enter?
The ADDY Awards is the advertising industry’s premiere creative
competition. Any creative director in any ad agency would be impressed
with work that has been submitted to the Student ADDYs.
This is your chance to show off your creative talents- and have Fun doing
it! No restrictions on themes or topics, no clients telling you to make the
logo bigger, no instructors telling you to keep it 8.5” x 11”.
Go wild!
And if you win a local, regional or national ADDY award, hey, that would be
awesome for your portfolio.
And yes… the $1,000 cash for winning national Best of Show won’t hurt
either.
5. What Should I Enter?
Work may be developed specifically for this competition or submitted
from previous competitions, school projects or classes as long as it was
created between January 1 – December 31, 2013
Work developed for paying clients will not be accepted with the
exception of work created for clubs as fundraisers or for student
publications.
Work done as a group project can be submitted as long as everyone
who had a part in creating the work is aware that it is being entered
into the Student ADDYs and that they are listed on the bylines.
6. What Wins?
Superior execution, attention to detail, and originality
Execution: photography, typography, layout, printing,
sound clarity, etc
Details: every word, every frame, every link
Originality: most important, may even overcome mediocre
execution
Be memorable: edgy or heartfelt, funny or bizarre, tap into
emotions
7. Before Entering
Ask yourself…
–
Would I put this in my portfolio?
–
Would I show this to a potential clients?
–
Would this be included on my demo reel?
Ask people around you...
