DRUGS ABUSE MANANGMENT INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENT

7. In the early years of the twentieth century, the
international group began to be concerned and
apprehensive of the effects of drugs that have been
spreading exponentially
Since then, agreements have been issued stipulating the
terms and modalities of cooperation.

8. The most important international conventions

9. The first agreement was lahay Convention on
Opium and its derivatives of 1912
It began in 1920 and was the result of the
international conference held in Shanghai in
1909 and attended by 13 people.
Geneva Conventions :
The first agreement was 19 February 1925,
which included more stringent and effective
measures to regulate the licit trade of drugs
and tighten international control not only on
opium but also on cannabis
The second agreement, dated 13 July 1931,
concerns the reduction of the manufacture of
drugs and the organization of their
distribution for legitimate purposes.
The third agreement, dated June
26, 1936, includes deterring illegal
drug trafficking. The signatories to
the Convention have committed
themselves to enacting national
legislation that penalizes drug
crimes

10.  The establishment of the International Narcotics Control Board (ISC)
 Explain some of the terminology of drugs
 Definition of internationally controlled substances listed in four tables
 Expanding the drug control system to include plants from which raw materials are
derived from drugs of natural origin and derivatives
 Control of new types of manufactured drugs
 Prevent the production of drugs except for medical or scientific purposes
 The establishment or maintenance of the system of national monopoly of industry and
drug trafficking
 Implement a policy on the treatment and social reintegration of addicts
