Technology Integration Unit Outline
Type only in the gray areas
Name: Sergio Villegas
Project Title: Greater than the Sum of its Parts
Project Subject: Physics: Electro-Magnetics
Grade Level(s): 11-12
Essential Question: Will creating an environment where students are inter-reliant
when it comes to content and test generation lead to better
classroom environment?
Scaffolding How do you create a lesson?
Questions: How to write good test questions?
What is the best way to deliver information in an online
format?
How can you use mixed media to improve the delivery of your
content?
Assignment Students will select groups of two or three and be randomly
Summary: assigned topics to research from this unit on electro-magnetics.
They will create a presentation on Prezi (or other web 2.0
media of their choice) as well as the unit test questions.
Approximate Length of Unit (days, weeks)
2 weeks
Goals:
Students become the class resource for a certain topic.
The accountability embedded in the project creates the need to do good work, not points
gained or taken away.
Creation of test questions helps students think about the content they are engaging
with.
Make the information more accessible when the peers are the resource, not the teacher.
Students learn the basics of online media creation, sharing, embedding video and
creating a good presentation that is built with the end in mind.
Ownership of content is extended to monitoring prezi discussions, as well as changing
presentations based on peer feedback.
Objectives:
Research topic by following guiding questions provided by course instructor.
Write test questions based on research and submit (along with answers) to
instructor for approval.
Create Prezi account for team and create presentation that includes: Lesson objectives,
Title of team members, embedded short demo video for your concept, pictures to go
along with script, Check for understanding, and test questions to prepare for.
Study all other topics before the test and respond to all topic test questions, seek out
creators if you find a question confusing or are unable to answer.
Add to Class progress chart on Coach Vs website as steps are completed.

Ace the test!
Lesson Plan Sequence of Events – give day-to-day details:
Day 1: Demo Day- Play with array of electrical and Magnetic stuff…Completed and
our stuff that we ordered did not arrive so I embedded a bunch of youtube videos that
students made observations on and wrote one question per video.
Day2: Concept Review day-Blend Lecture with class questions and present the
basics of the unit and how it relates to previous knowledge about electrical
circuits…completed and I did not have the first two periods writing questions for each
observation, instead they were making hypothesizes which was much to involved and
difficult for this stage of the game. The lecture went much better when students had a
bank of questions to direct at me or each other.
Day 3: Complete lecture and assign groups, topics, introduce project…Complete,
problem with trying to describe in detail the entire scope of the project. Too many
questions around how it will be graded, how they will find stuff. What exactly they have
to do. After a few periods I learned to describe it as a task to make test questions and a
presentation. Then spend time giving them detail for the first step.
Day 4: Go over research Resources and Do research: I quickly learned that some
topics have more textbook support than others, and some websites have more detail (too
much) than others and overall my students are not able to “research a project” and come
up with questions and a lesson shortly thereafter. I had to provide some scaffolding and
direction as topics like electromagnetic have infinite layers of understanding. On my
website I posted links to sites with good level of information delivered as well as general
questions to guide their research.
Day 5: Finish Research, Write Questions: I modeled the difference between a good
question and a bad question for the class and then explained to them the expectations for
all students to get their questions approved. Questions will be published (without
answers) for the class to view at the end of their presentation. They must present
questions with answers to me for approval before they can move on to the next step in the
process.
Day 6: Timeline, Progress Chart and moving on…Unit webpage will feature a
progess chart that students can edit if they are working from home. Explain how to sign
on with google account and edit progress. Class decides timeline with clickers based on
the question, “when would you like other groups to finish their presentations so that you
can have time to study for the test next Friday?”. We will have a follow up open
response question as to how to deal with groups that do not meet those timelines.
Day 7: Clear Presentation before Creating: Instructor will model expectations for
presentation before approval to create and publish. Lesson must include: Objectives,
Vocab, Content, Check for understanding and Questions. Students will continue where
they left off.
Day 8: Prezi, Video and Photo embed: explain Prezi with example presentations and
in detail, how to embed youtube video and search and add pictures…continue
Day 9: Lecture Resource page: show students where peer presentations will be posted
on website so that groups that are completed can begin preparing for test. Everyone has
the same log in so that they can watch a video and leave comments. Student’s are
responsible for responding to comments on their web page, answering questions and
modifying their video.

Day 10-11: Review and Resources: Part of their grade will involve them following
presentations, taking notes, and answering questions at the end. Notes will need to
include title and Team members so students know who to go to if they don’t understand
something.
