2. KEY TAKEAWAYS AND LEARNINGS
•Be prepared to evaluate the idea mid way.
This helps in refining the idea and
eliminate complete failure on
implementing it. Be prepared to think of
completely alternative solution mid way.
Prototype and
Evaluate
•Do not restrict the thoughts to the most
practical solution when ideating. This
restricts flow of ideas and takes the fun
away from the process
Restriction of
ideas during
ideation
•This would help in heading towards the
right solution and solve for the most
important problem
Clear Problem
Statement
3. IDEATE
Problem Statement:
Need a way to make the kid more creative and learn in the
process. Make learning more enjoyable and part of the
family time.
Ideas
Creative work with charts, glitters, colors and scissors
Objective is to teach new words, make sentences with them
The way to do it is to make a Picture Dictionary with all the materials
mentioned above
Talk about some fun topic for about 10 minutes
Objective is to avoid the television, video games and spend time as
family
The topic could be “Why do a dog wag its tail as soon as it sees the
master?”
4. PROTOTYPE AND TEST
Tested on the 2 ideas
1st one: very successful. Made a Picture Dictionary with 10
words. It took 4 hours to complete. Kid loved it and all the 10
words were learnt without effort. But time spent on this was
way too high. Need an alternative. But this was really
enjoyable for both of us
The 2nd one on the topic “Why do a dog wag its tail as soon
as it sees the master?”. This was wonderful and we just sat
there talking about it for ½ hour. Kids’ imagination during the
time was amazing. Could avoid the television and video
games which kills any interaction within the kids time.
5. REFLECTION
Like everything starts with a smaller step and starts at
home, instead of applying the process at work I decided
to try it out on my daily activities at home. Kids were the
best place to start and they have a very high sense of
creativity and imagination
This actually is leading me to think the design process
way in almost everything I do, even the most
monotonous of activities in a given day.
The process of prototyping and testing was
overwhelming to start with but then it overthrew the
inhibitions of sharing an incomplete work. Found the
exercise the most useful during this course.
Kudos to Design Thinking. Thank you Stanford and
Leticia Britos Cavagnaro for a wonderful experience!
