Light reflects off objects and travels in a straight line into our eyes, where it passes through the cornea and lens and hits the retina. The retina contains rods and cones that send visual messages through the optic nerve to the brain, allowing us to see. Our eyes contain lysozymes that destroy microbes trying to enter the body and help us see through specialized cells that allow color vision.

a light bulb help us see.
• Light reflects of an object and to our
eyes.
• Light always travels in a straight line.
• Light cannot travel through opaque
materials (objects that are not see-
through) like us.

3. Our Eyes
• Our eyes allow us to see.
• Our eyes have special cells that send
messages to the brain on what we see.
• Our eyes contain lysozymes. These
destroy microbes (microscopic
organisms) that try to enter the body.
• Different animals have different
strengths of vision. For example not all
animals can see in colour.

4. We SEE
In order to see:
1. Light reflects of an object and
into our eyes.
2. It enters the cornea.
3. It then moves through the lens
which makes it focused.
4. It reaches the retina and colour-
sensitive cells called rods and
cones.
5. The information from the retina
travels through the optic nerve
to the brain.
