3. What is WiTricity?
• WiTricity is nothing but Wireless Electricity.
• Transmission of electrical energy from one object to another
without the use of wire is called WiTricity.
(Or)
The Transfer of electricity without using connections between
input and load is termed as wireless electricity.
• Because of the WiTricity, some of the devices won’t require
batteries to operate.
4. Why not wires??
As per studies, most electrical energy transfer is through wires.
Most of the energy loss is during transmission.
On an average, more than 30% .
In India, it exceeds by 40%.
Why not batteries??
Estimated that 40 billion batteries per year add to the e-waste
burden.
And of course it’s not a good sign.
5. Need of Witricity
Imagine your cell phones, laptops, i-pods and other power hungry
devices getting charged on their own, eliminating the need of
plugging in.
And this is possible due to WIreless electricity or simply, WiTricity..
6. Working Principle of Witricity
• Witricity works on the principle of mutual induction between the two coils.
• There are two copper coils arranged one at the sender end and other at the
receiver end.
• The first coil is attached to the power source while the second coil to the light
bulb.
• When the power is switched ON, first the coil converts the electricity into
magnetic field.
• Which is oscillating at a particular frequency i.e, AC source.
• The second coil at the receiver end converts the magnetic field into electricity.
• The surrounding environment is unaffected.
7. HOW WIRELESS POWER WORKS?
1. Magnetic coil (Antenna A) is housed in a box and can be set in wall
or ceiling.
2. Antenna A, powered by mains, resonates at a specific frequency.
3. Electromagnetic waves transmitted through the air.
4. Second magnetic coil (Antenna B) fitted in laptop/TV etc resonates
at same frequency as first coil and absorbs energy.
5. Energy charges the device.
8.
9. Consumer Electronics
1. Automatic wireless charging of mobile electronics in
home, cars, offices.
2. Mobile phones, Laptops, Game controllers etc.
Industrial Applications
1. Direct wireless power and communication
interconnections at points of use in harsh environments.
2. In Drilling, Mining, Underwater etc.
Transportation
1. Automatic wireless charging for existing electric vehicle
classes.
2. In Golf carts, Cars etc.
Other Applications
Medical devices, Military applications and Robots.
WiTricity Applications
10. More Reliable/Less Cost
- Never run out of battery power in wireless
zones.
- Power transfers more efficiently than through
wires.
More Convenient
- No more changing batteries.
- No messy cords.
Environmentally Friendly
- Reduces the use of disposable batteries.
- Reduces energy loss.
Wireless Charging Pad(WCP)
• Any living organisms that are placed in between
the two coils (transmitter &emitter) will not halt
or hinder the transmission of magnetic field.
• It is because the magnetic rays will not interact
with the living tissues so strong and can be easily
passed through the humans or other living
organisms.
Benefits of WiTricity
11. Conclusion
• An advantage is that we can produce electricity anywhere without wires.
• The power can be delivered in any direction i.e; omni-directional.
• Most common things in our surroundings do not interact with these magnetic fields and thus not harmful to other
living beings.
• Reduction of e-waste by eliminating the need for power cords.
• Magnetic fields interact weakly with biological masses (humans) and energy is only transmitted between resonating
objects.
• Need more light in your office, no need for electrician. Simply place the lamp wherever you need it.
If we apply this idea to the whole city, we might not have to use any wired cable.
Moreover, in the future, it would save the material cost and,
In short, is the future of Electricity.
