2. Posters are used as a further way of
advertisement and promotion for a specific
album or artists, they are not only used for music
promotion but also films and TV shows it is just
another creative way to create advertisement.
Music posters often consist of the artists name in
a bold large text in order to make it stand out and
also they create to a specific song or album they
have produced.
3. Ben Howard-Every Kingdom
This poster was created for the artist
Ben Howard, this was produced to
promote his debut album. The poster
uses a large bold text when it comes
to displaying his name and the name of
the album is always written in a
thinner text and a slight change in the
size of the font. The poster includes
the exact same photo used for the
front cover of the digipak, this is a key
element when creating music posters
because the majority that are
produced use the same image that is
used on the digipak. By using the same
image it allows further advertisement
and for the artist and the album, the
image used on the poster is the artist
himself this enables audiences to
recognise him as an artist.
The information is a key aspect of the
poster because it is promoting the
album, it includes the information such
as the type of album it , the format of
disc, record information and possibly a
website link to the artists website. The
written text such as 'OUT NOW' alerts
whoever is looking at the poster
making them want to possibly buy the
album, the same logo of the record
company is also displayed on the
bottom left hand corner. The image in
this poster is what draws you into the
poster it fills the entire poster size
however both the image and the text
stand out. The proportions of the text
and image are equal so that you are
able to clearly see both on the poster.
4. Bombay Bicycle Club
The overall look of this poster appears to be informative however it is an
appealing poster due to the choice of colours used for the text and the simple
monochrome image as the background. It is clear who the band/artist is due to
the positioning of the name 'Bombay Bicycle Club' being at the top of the
poster, the name is also highlighted with lines around the name. Then the
name of the album is positioned underneath the bands name in a smaller font
size, then the type of album for example 'DEBUT ALBUM' to inform that it is
their first album then displaying that the album is 'OUT NOW'.
By writing 'out now' it is a dominant phrasing so makes people want to
purchase or listen to the album quickly. Three of the tracks are written on the
poster and date when the album is available, the website of the band is also
displayed at the bottom of the poster this means that people will be able to
know where they can buy the CD and find more information about the band.
There are two record companies logos that are positioned at either side of the
poster. The image used for the background is in a dark lighting this helps for
the text to stand out however also contains a specific meaning either to the
band or to the album. The photo has a vintage look to it which could suggest
the image is old or that was the effect they were aiming for.
5. The verve- Love is noise
This advertisement poster by the Verve for the album Love Is Noise is a
complex poster in the use of imagery they have used, the photo is very
picturesque and the thought of the photo must have taken a long time in
order to capture a photo of such quality. The name of the artist/band and
album is positioned central of the poster with the white clouds in the
background this has enabled the text to appear bold and vibrant in order for
the audience to read the poster. The information of the album release is
displayed at the bottom half of the poster is the only negative part of the
poster because you are not able to see the text very clearly, if a darker
coloured font was used it may possibly be more visible. The type of album is
informed on the poster, so in this case it is a single promotion, then the
different ways you are able to buy the single is listed through 'Download out
now/CD & 2-part vinyl out Monday' this informs the audience the variety of
formats they are able to buy and when. A website address is also written at
the bottom of the poster along with the production logo too, a logo is always
displayed on the poster because it is the production company that helps to
produce the entire album.
6. You me at six-Hold me down
The artists name is in a
large font as well as the
release date, these are two
parts of information that is
most important to
promote hence being in a
large font size compared to
the rest of the poster. I like
the simplicity of
advertisement in this
poster which is something
that I could use for my
poster because although it
is simple it still includes
everything that needs to
be promoted.
The 'You Me At Six' is a poster
that features a simplistic
approach in the aspect that is
does not have load of
information written over the
poster like the 'Bombay
Bicycle Club' poster it just
promotes the important
information. The poster has
everything it needs to
promote the album however
just released the main points
such as the bands name,
album name, format, a new
album, the date its released,
where it is available at and the
production company.
7. Whilst researching posters I came across advertisement poster for Coldplay's album
'MYLOXTLOTO' however I was unable to find the original poster without being in a magazine
shown in the photo. The image of the poster caught my attention due to the use of imagery in the text
font, I think the concept and idea of having in image in text would be a unique technique to use in a
poster because it is unusual, on the other hand it also draws attention to not only what the image is in
the text but also what the text says.
