1. My music video for Passion Pit’s song ‘Take a Walk’ will be a narrative
music video. The video is going to show the life of a couple and their
love story. The couple will be teenagers/young adults who move away
together (or emigrate – depends on how the audience interpret it) to
enjoy life together. The couple’s relationship is admirable because they
are both extremely happy and love-struck. They are ambitious (running
into the sea stripping and flying together) and carry out many activities
together, many being day-to-day ones which are filmed/edited in an
interesting way in order to become more interesting. They couple enjoy
romantic walks and joint days out. However, the perfect portrayed
relationship is not as perfect as it seems. Throughout the video the
couple get angry and have arguments which results in the girl to get
frustrated. The boy is more laid back and humours her annoyance
which angers her even more. The video will be humorous to interact
with the audience, yet it will also be relatable to the target audience.
The couple will wear quite quirky and fun clothing (the boy will
sometimes wear a unique hat and the girl will have fun hair) to follow
the convention of ‘finding yourself’ and ‘your style’ and the fact that
they have passed those stages and are content within themselves.
2. Some shots will follow Todorov’s narrative by having the visuals match the lyrics. For
example; ‘then my partner called to say the pension funds were gone. He made some
bad investments, now the accounts are overdrawn’ are lyrics in the song which I am
planning to match with an argument the couple have about money and the lack of it.
Also, the chorus has the lyrics ‘Take a Walk’ repetitively, therefore I am going to
include shots of the couple walking which fit in time with the beat and follow the
narrative. Another example; ‘Once I was outside Penn Station’ I am planning to have a
shot of a train station and then the couple on a train journey which will be one of their
fun adventures. Some people take a walk to calm themselves down or de-stress them
which also fits the lyrics and narrative.
3. The couple will be portrayed as perfect for each other, yet the boy can be rude and upset the girl which
influences the audience to feel similar emotions of the female character. The audience enjoy the couple and
find them fun as a whole, yet they begin to get confused by the boy’s actions and how he treats the girl and
get frustrated at him themselves. On the other hand, they may view the boy’s actions as a light-hearted joke
and feel the girl needs to ‘let go a little’. This is a common occurrence in today’s society and some people find
it difficult to work through their differences in a relationship which leads to them bottling up their emotions
and break up. Alternatively, many couples work though their differences like mature adults and talk about
their differences in a mature manner, or release it until it’s sorted – which is what the couple in my video will
do in my music video (because they are young and fun) in order to encourage couples to talk about their
issues and differences. Throughout my video, the couple have little arguments but they always know how to
sort them out. The rest of the clips will be shots of the couple conveying their freedom and youth, which is
why I am going to include interesting shot transitions in order to follow the theme of energy and happiness
because they love each other and have fun ways. Therefore, there is a moral behind my video; even though a
couple may argue or get frustrated with each other, if you truly love each other you will never stop considering
the other person’s feelings and you should be able to tell each other anything, so if you are unhappy in a
relationship or want to make changes and sort something out never be afraid to do so. If your partner is not
considerate enough to listen and take your words on board then they are obviously not the right one. Even
though you may argue and have differences as long as you know how each other feels and you make each
other happy then you are with the right person. Enjoy the time you spend together and don’t let silly little
arguments ruin what you have.
