1. Film conventions
The film opening I have chosen to look at fro ‘Art of the Title Sequence’ is Coraline directed by Henry
Selick.

Typically the theme and non – diagetic background music gives away the genre of the film. The director
has chosen to use soft orchestral music but has an eerie feel to it as if it is suggesting danger.
Another very common convention nearly all films use
is including the logo and the name of the production
logo right at the beginning.
For example during the title sequence
where they introduce the title of the
film at the beginning the font looks
like it has been embroidered.
Interestingly this goes with the theme
of the film and already gives us an
idea about the storyline.
