The Theory Of Plate Tectonics And Earth s Crust Displacement
For millions of years the Earth has experienced geologic catastrophes. Since the existence of Theia
itself, the Earth s crust has been formed, deformed, and even demolished. The crust has never been a
completed masterpiece due to this. Why is this? The most recent physical changes were caused by the
theory of plate tectonics and earth s crust displacement. Plate tectonics and its movement resulted in
our continents drifting across the earth s surface, and the creation of mountain belts, volcanoes, and
the faults of today s Earth. A German meteorologist and explorer Alfred Wegener put forth the theory
of continental drift in the early 1900 s. Wegener pointed out that the earth s continents looked as if
they were all connected at one point in time. He also pointed out that some of earth s features,
including the long S shaped mountain structure formed on the Atlantic seafloor, could fit snugly
against the corresponding western seafloor of Europe and Africa (Sieh and LeVay 1998). Wegener
proposed that all of the earth s continents once formed one single landmass, which he named Pangaea
or all land . He concluded that Pangaea had broken up and separated due to the unidentifiable forces
estimated 300 million years ago (Sieh and LeVay 1998). Geologists did not fully understand at the
time that Earth s continents could drift (Hazen 2012). After all, the continents do not float in the
oceans. They are made from a solid material connecting to the mantle, a sphere of solid rock

Summary Of Imagery In Oresteia
From fate to justice; how the net imagery in the Oresteia changes throughout the play and how does it
establish the superiority of a formal justice system to one based on the individual quest for revenge
There is no doubt that the house of Atreus did not have an easy history. However, it made me question
the true motives of the actions the characters in the Oresteia perform. Are they a form of justice or
revenge? In the system that was practiced throughout the play, revenge drives the characters to act.
And although they call it justice, it is not. Aeschylus uses net imagery that originates in the first play
Agamemnon and plays a crucial role in the subject of faith and destiny. From Cassandra s vision to
Clytemnestra executing that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second, it gives the sense that Agamemnon was never in charge of his own fate, a theme that repeats
in the Oresteia. Agamemnon, the fish in this scenario, seems like a helpless creature. Third, since a
fishing net is unseen by its prey, Agamemnon does not know the fate that awaits him. This, in turn, can
be connected to Cassandra s vision that symbolizes Clytemnestra as the net. Now the net
[Clytemnestra] the fish eye terror [Agamemnon]. Death is bundling him up, like a mother swaddling a
child (55). If the consensus is that Clytemnestra did this deed solely for the purpose of avenging her
daughter s death, ignoring Aegisthus involvement for the moment, then I could not have said it better
myself. By understanding Clytemnestra is the net in Cassandra s vision, and the fish is Agamemnon,
the reader can focus on the urgent need for revenge that Clytemnestra holds. Another passage that
relates well to these two is the chorus s response to Clytemnestra. After revealing the murder, she is
compared to a spider that had cast a web. The spider s web swaddled him helpless (75). The change of
the net imagery is what makes this sentence unique. Throughout the play, Clytemnestra is symbolized
as a serpent, a spider and more. Now, she is the spider, perhaps the black widow, who eats their
significant others. She is once again in a position of power and superiority

Understanding Pro Social Behaviour Among Humans ( Cikara )
The ability for an individual to recognize another s suffering and experience the same emotions to
some extent is common in order to promote pro social behaviour among humans (Cikara, Bruneau,
Van Bavel, Saxe, 2014). This ability to empathize with others begins early on and is motivated by the
need to alleviate the distress in another when they are suffering. As noted by de Waal (2008), empathy
occurs quickly and automatically as a way to respond to the emotional states of others, in turn being a
major part of social interactions, coordinated activity, and cooperation toward shared goals. Thus, de
Waal (2008) discusses the three different levels of empathy, among which are emotional contagion,
sympathetic concern, and empathic perspective taking. Firstly, emotional contagion is simply about
automatic sharing as the individual takes on the emotional state of another even without any
understanding of the other (de Waal, 2008). Next, de Waal (2008) suggests sympathetic concern is
when an individual attempts to understand and reduce distress in the other (i.e. comforting behaviour),
as there is knowledge that the response is about the other. Lastly, empathic perspective taking occurs
when an individual is dependent on imagination and mental state attribution as it is entirely about the
other and separate from the self (de Waal, 2008).
There is much research done to suggest that there are failures in peoples ability to empathize (Cikara
et al. 2014; Brown, Bradley, Lang,

The Role Of Fate In Greek Mythology
When we look at Greek Mythology we often run into the gods of that era. Sometimes they are merely
backdrops to the human element of the story but in stories such as The Odyssey the gods play a
prominent if not vital role to the central themes of the story.
Fate has a place in the Greek world but is place is not the same as it is in other scenarios or worlds. It
is important to understand the word before we discuss it. Fate as far as Greek mythology goes is not
just fate, by most standards fate is described as things that occur for an unknown reason that no one
has any control over. However, in Greek Mythology fate simply does not just happen. The God s

That was his free will. Some say that the gods knew Odysseus would not stay and that is why they
decided to let him go. However, knowledge of an act doesn t take away the fact that Odysseus chose
himself. The gods took much of his life away and he had more reason than anyone to give up and say
to himself, This is my fate. Ann, a critic of The Odyssey says, Blaming the gods for your faults doesn t
always work, though. There s a difference between having a fate and accepting your fate. The real
heroes never give in. (Ann par. 26) That difference, between having fate and accepting it, is free will.
Once the gods have controlled the fate of certain people, the gods let the happenings take course. It is
true that the gods interfere with the lives of the people, but that will never take away their free will.
Zeus says it himself in the beginning of The Odyssey while talking to other gods upon Olympus, My
word how mortals take the gods to task! All their afflictions come from us, we hear. And what of their
own failings? (Homer 210) This statement by Zeus says that the people are indeed responsible for
themselves and they have the ability to make their own choices. Regarding the same verse Torrey
stated, This makes it seem that while men don t take responsibility in the Odyssey, the gods say they
should... (Philemon, par. 1) Zeus also gives us another good example in that same speech. Here Zeus

ADA SEAL OF ACCEPTANCE The ADA seal is usually displayed on the front of the product that is
being sold, and in some cases, it will be on the side. When I asked my family of 5 if the seal was
important in their selection of dental products. They responded by saying what seal, they had no clue
what I was talking about until I pulled up a photo on my phone of the ADA seal and showed them. So,
it didn t play a vital role in deciding what product they would purchase. Now that I know what the
ADA seal means and represents, it definitely affects my recommendation of certain products to my
family or anyone in that case. If a product has the ADA seal I can rest assured that it is a legitimate

An Essay On Appalachian Culture
Appalachia is a culture based upon the ancient traditions and customs that have made its way through
the years. Appalachia is a descriptive term referring to things in the Appalachian region. The style of
dance or music would be a prime example of things in that particular region. The culture of the people
began as really poor people who went West to survive on their own and avoid tax and toleration of the
Eastern States. People who are from there or native to the region are generally close knit, and fiercely
defensive of friends and family and skeptical of outsiders. Yet, despite the lack of educational
education, they had a lot of pride for who they were and their mark in history. According to popular
beliefs on Appalachia, many people are led to believe that Appalachia is a poor and uneducated region.
In the town in which I grew up, there is a place in the town called Old Town which showcases the

And many of the stories that were once told by the people are working its way out of our homes. We
only hold onto the knowledge of Appalachia and the stories that accompany each folk song. What I ve
come to see over the years is the lack of respect that we have for the Appalachian people and the work
they put into each item they present. Whether that be a pot or a basket we need to recognize the
craftsmanship that they invest to make things to eat out of or to put things into. Many of us, like
myself, was not born into the Appalachian life but yet it chooses me. An event held every year on
December 26th named Christmas Country Dance School(CCDS). That is where you really feel a sense
of getting back to your roots. All kinds of people come together under one roof to sing, dance, tell
stories, and fellowship together as one kin. There you find a sense of belonging where you can walk
into a room and really feel the energy of people, and automatically feel as though you found a sense of

Characterization in Pam Houston s A Blizzard Under Blue Sky
Houston s A Blizzard Under Blue Sky explores and exhibits the idea of psycho physical experience of
being in the natural world to heal one s psychological and emotional ailments through its invigorating
contact. The narrative, by drawing on the theme of depression, relates how the narrator, seeing
everything in [her] life...uncertain (Houston 185), goes winter camping alone in the high country;
undergoes a chilling near death experience; and gleefully returns reinvigorated with the memory of joy
, and hopefulness (188). Though highly personalized in the narrative, the narrator s experience of
depression is a common phenomenon and, Houston, in this sense, seems to ... Show more content on

This all seems quite characteristic of a depressed mind to loathe what is around and be enchanted by
the mystic power of solitude away from the petty human world. While the protagonist decides on
winter camping despite the knowledge of the unforgiving freezing temperature there, the warning of
her housemate and disaster tales of winter camping fatalities (187), one is sceptic if she has made up
her mind out of love for nature.
Yet, the detailing of the protagonist s expedition leaves one wishing for a similar adventure. The
narrator s company of her two best friends, her dogs: Jackson and Hailey, seems to carry a special
significance for her. Their personification and the treatment as developing characters must have some
symbolic representation of the protagonist s personality that has been split now. The male figure
Jackson is an oversized sheepdog and something else that is tireless, adventurous and leader like while
the female figure Hailey is not so graceful , is in constant indecision as she runs and stays behind the
[protagonist] as they ski (185). While Jackson encourages the narrator to ski harder, go faster, climb
higher , she has to mediate between him and reluctant, groaning Hailey to find an agreement. In a
symbolic level, perhaps, Houston wants the readers to see the protagonist as an embodiment of three
distinct dispositions: conscience, optimism and depression. While the protagonist herself represents
her conscience, this

Belonging To A New Place
The meaning of belongings is feeling comfortable and happy in a particular group of people,
surroundings, situation or society. Belonging can be related to culture, language, background, hobbies,
religion, occasions, national dress or some particular activity. It is a well known fact that belonging to
a group can make an individual feel not only accepted, but more powerful that if they were on their
own. Let us discuss the belongings in two different situations. In first situation we will discuss
influence of belongings on us at a place familiar to us and then we will compare it by supposing a visit
of some strange place with different culture. When we live in our own country, we remained
supportive by our own culture, people with same language, religion, back ground, familiar food,
sports, dresses, hobbies and even almost same occasions to calibrate. We live with our friends,
neighbors, relatives and share happy and sad moments with them. We help each other and feel
comfortable as we know that in the event of any unlike situation we have our belonging in shape of
similar culture, norms, resources, friends to support us. Now let us discuss another situation. 3 years

taken place at places such as shopping malls.
Stories that include the involvement of people in music scenes being labelled as deviants have gone
way back since the 1920s. Jazz was once perceived as providing fuel for racial fears and was
considered as a threat to the society. More often than not, music is often perceived as the prime cause
of corruption of audience s minds because it has the ability to hypnotize its listeners or audiences,
while destabilizing youth, transporting them out of their senses into zombie like states, (Shepherd,
2003). Shepherd (2003) has also noted that the media plays a big role in pouring fuel in creating moral
panic. This issue had been made as headlines during the controversial period. Exaggeration and
unconfirmed rumours had been taken as evidence of the existence of the ritual activities. The media
had perhaps exaggerated certain facts such as the actual number of people that were involved in the
activities and the nature of violence that the members of the black metal culture had committed. More

Lev Vygotsky s Theory Of Human Development
Lev Vygotsky was a soviet psychologist born at the end of the 19th century. His theory of human
development was very different from Carl Rogers. Vygotsky believed that children learnt by
interacting with others and those with strong family cultural social or peer grow groups learnt well. He
thought that an individual could improve an increase in knowledge through social interaction. He
developed an idea we would learn from MKO which stood for more knowledgeable other . Someone
who has a better understanding. If an infant or learner was given a task that was too easy, they would
lose interest and get bored and if it was too hard they would give up and think they couldn t do it. So,
by bringing someone else into the equation to help, the child learns through social interaction in
something that Vygotsky called the ZPD this is the zone of proximal development this is by the means
of what he called scaffolding so using varying methods by describing, hints, verbal gestures were used
to assist the learner.
The ZPD could be described as like an apple cut in half. The outer section which is the skin is what
the learner cannot do. The inner section which is the flesh of the Apple is what the learner can do with
guidance, which is the ZPD. In the heart of the Apple where the core is, the seeds and buds of learning
take place this is what the learner can do unaided.

Christopher Novan s Use Of Narrative Structure In Memento
In Christopher Nolan s 2001 neo noir psychological thriller, Memento, he explores the idea of trust
through a unique narrative structure. The film explores trust through the protagonist, Leonard Shelby
and his interactions with characters, Natalie and Teddy in his hunt for the man who raped his wife. The
structure of the film is split into two parts: colour scenes (the main plot line) and black and white
scenes (the sub plot line). Nolan alternates between the two; however, the colour scenes are shown
backwards in time, from Leonard s point of view, in first person; and the black and whites scenes are
told forwards in a documentary style with just voice over and simple images.
The start of the film opens with a scene literally shown backwards, which makes the audience aware
of the structure of the way the story will be told. There is repetition within the colour scenes, when one
colour scenes starts it is the end of the next one. The use of this makes the audience rethink everything
they have been told in the previous scene. This adds the effect of watching the film how Leonard
would perceive it. The main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However this is not the case: Teddy is the one helping Leonard find the man who raped his wife and
protects him throughout. In the end Teddy is shot in the head by Leonard. Due to the way the film is
structured Teddy is made out to be the bad person, but towards the end of the movie it is found out that
Teddy was there the whole time to help Leonard and make sure that nothing happens to him on his
investigation. Due to the unique narrative structure of this film, the perception of Teddy is all wrong.
Nolan uses this technique as it makes the audience form their own views on the characters and keeps
them guessing until the end of the film. Due to the narrative structure, the film relies heavily on first
impressions on characters, however, these views change as the film

Menorrhagia Research Paper
Introduction
Menorrhagia, or heavy menstrual flow, is one of the greatest common complaints met by primary care
doctors and gynecologists. It is defined as menstrual loss of more than 80 mL. This translates to
menses that continues for more than seven days or the use of more than 10 pads or tampons per day. It
is most commonly associated with perimenopause. (1) Although menorrhagia is not fatal, it can cause
chronic anemia, pelvic pain and cramping. The condition also severely influences quality of life by
disrupting work, social functioning and family life.(2) The old style primary management for

It is quicker, simpler, safer lesion removal. In 2005, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
approved the TRUCLEAR™ hysteroscopic morcellator (Smith Nephew, Andover, MA) as the first
motorized morcellator for intrauterine pathology. In 2009, the FDA approved another hysteroscopic
morcellation device the MyoSure® Tissue Removal System (Hologic, Bedford, MA). Similar to the
first generation TRUCLEAR, the second generation MyoSure system depends on a suction based,
mechanical energy, rotating tubular cutter system rather than the high frequency electrical energy
historically used by resectoscopy systems to eliminate intrauterine tissue.(20) Once placed inside the
uterine cavity, the device shaves off and immediately suctions out any excised tissue that might impair
visibility. The ability to remove and instantly suction out tissue fragments means the hysteroscopy and
morcellator are inserted only once, for initial entry. This is a huge advantage from both the physician s
and the patient s point of view. For the physician, the immediate removal of tissue through the probe
makes surgery much simpler to perform and requires less surgical time. The advantage for the patient
is a much safer treatment. Shorter operating time means less exposure to general anesthesia and puts

Sacrifice by Fire Essay
Sacrifice by fire. The pleading children, the debilitating elderly, and the cynical women all have the
same look of fear when they hear the word Holocaust. Approximately six million brave Jews were
brutally murdered during the dreadful era of the Holocaust. These Jews were ordinary humans who
hadn t committed a crime, hadn t encouraged any riots and hadn t leveled any threats. They were
citizens of their home countries who had the capability of contributing several intellectual
achievements to the world. In the concentration camps, they were tortured, both physically and
psychologically, starved, beaten, forced to live like animals and literally worked to death.

year of 1945. Their mother died from hunger and exhaustion in Auschwitz in January 1945. Otto

concentration camp.
Even though the times of Holocaust are relatively recent, the story of the Holocaust is not as simple as
it may appear. For many people this time will be something they will never overlook, because it was a
ferocious battle for survival. It was a time of challenges and disputes for the right to live, a time when
Jews were killed just for being who they were, a time when a person with a yellow star was
condemned to certain death. We should remember that a little over seventy years ago, there were six
million people obliterated from this earth. The rotting, stacked corpses and the children screaming
with excruciating pain when torn away from their mothers have taught us the lesson of fear and
prejudice that I relevant to this day. We remember those innocent Jews who were treated cruelly just
for being human beings. We owe our condolences to the people who died, got tortured in
concentration camps and those who escaped and saw their loved ones dying at their feet. Finally, we
should remember the Holocaust and Anne Frank s agonizing story so we recall the memories and pass
them to our children.

According to Jeb Hensarling, Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, if the 21st
Century Flood Reform Act became law, taxpayers would directly benefit through the competition of
private companies to provide affordable flood insurance rates for homeowners. Republican Sean P.
Duffy, the sponsor of the bill, spoke on the House floor and reinforced Hensarling s statement. Duffy
claimed that introducing private companies would allow homeowners to select alternative flood
insurance plans that may be cheaper than any available federal plans. Additionally, Duffy stated that
private flood insurance companies would assist taxpayers in covering the costs resulting from a flood.
Duffy concluded by not only stating that the 21st Century Flood Reform Act is a bipartisan bill but
also reiterated its benefit to homeowners, and that it would directly contribute to reducing the national
debt. The bill has also received support from the American Academy of Actuaries Casualty Practice

It is a relative thing, that is where fraud and forensic crossed each other s path.
Fraud doesn t necessarily end up in court, but forensic accountant has to make evidence suitable for
admission in court. It is a stereotype thing, as long as auditors are concerned, audit report is supposed
to be a mere true and fair view of an account, but when if you are to prove or disprove an allegation of
fraud, there must be a forensic accounting investigation and report. It might have been tampered with,
ours is not to determine whether the suspect is guilty or not, but to give a better interpretation to the
evidences. It impacts on the financial sector of the economy.
There are lots of procedures in forensic that you cannot violate like that chain of command, you have
to know how the evidences were taken and preserved to avoid cases of tampering with evidence in our
court.
One major weapon accountants have is the use of questions or the interview technique in conducting
auditing jobs; there is no way you can start working without questioning, that is the most critical thing,
but not many accountants know its utmost usage, in forensic, we call this embedded incompetence.
What actually determines the success of the forensic report is the interview technique.

Healthcare Reform And Health Care Reform
As evidenced by the constant battle over health care reform, healthcare in the United States has
become a growing problem that must be addressed. While the main controversy seems to be the
politics of healthcare reform and whether the government should have total control, the one thing that
I believe should be the focus, is the quality of care that is embedded in the patient doctor relationship.
It s quite troublesome when large health insurance companies are swaying politicians to vote for less
health care regulation and higher premiums rather than focusing on the quality of care and the
importance of the patient doctor relationship, which has become overshadowed. That is why I believe
it is important to look at and consider how health care reform such as the PPACA and policies
implemented by private insurance companies have affected the doctor patient relationship and thereby
influenced the quality of medical care. One of the many reasons that I find this an interesting and
important topic is because I aspire to work in the medical field and the interaction between patients
and doctors is important for me to consider and determine how it has changed, whether it be for better
or worse, throughout the years as a result of added regulations and new reforms.
A pivotal aspect of receiving quality medical care is being able to communicate your health concerns
and have confidence and trust in your doctor, which is essentially the doctor patient relationship. Yet,

William E. Boeing s Influence On The Plane Making Industry
William E Boeing made a company that has changed the industry of plane making, but how much
influence did William E. Boeing have ton the plane making industry? Boeing s impact is large as the
company has influence the industry by several ways such as starting from a small company and
expanding to the world s largest company, making the first wide bodied plane, and going the distance
in reinventing the company to rise above their competitors.
In August 1915 William E. Boeing applied to the Glenn L. Martin School in Los Angeles. After he
completed his courses he ordered a plane known as Model TA from the Martin Factory to learn more
about how planes are made. The Model TA inspired Boeing to construct aircrafts. He hired twelve men
and they began building the first Boeing plane. William E. Boeing combined a factory and a seaplane
hangar by Lake Union and made the first test flight of the first Boeing plane. His first airplane was a
seaplane, and he sold several of them to the US Navy to use as pilot training jet during World War 1.
Between World War I and World War II, the Boeing Company developed both civilian and military
aircrafts and their heavy bombers played ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The plane that Boeing revealed is known as the Boeing 747. The Boeing 747 was a game changer
because it was the world s first wide bodied plane. According to the book Flying over the USA:
airplanes in American Life, The plane would be able to carry hundreds of passengers and the airliner
would now charge less for flying and would not need as many aircrafts (Martin 13). Another reason
why this plane is significant is because it was The Boeing Company s first plane to be entirely
designed on a computer. Designing planes on computer was one of the several changes that The
Boeing Company made to its company after the unveiling of the Boeing

Bail Laws ( Nsw )
Bail laws (NSW)
Bail has always been part of the common law system. In NSW, they have based their concept from the
Statue of Westminster I (1275), where there are different categories that separates who are to be bailed
or refused bail, which had become part of the Bail Act 1978 (NSW) and was enforced from March
1980. Bail Act 2013 (NSW) is the only other law that replaced Bail Act 1978 (NSW), but was
amended by Bail Amendment Act 2014 (NSW), which is the final replacement coming into full effect
in 28th January 2015.
In Section 4 of the Bail Act 1978, it states that authorisation to be at liberty under this Act, instead of
in custody . This is otherwise known as bail, the act of permitting a person to a brief period of freedom
who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the prosecution can provide sufficient reasoning of why bail cannot be granted, the assumption of
bail can be revoked.
Serious drug related offences can also disprove the presumption for bail and (likewise towards
aggressive offences) the accused must reason why bail should be permitted.
Issue and effect on individuals and society
Prior to 28th January 2015, bail laws posed significant loopholes in the system and are deemed to be
ineffective to achieve justice. Accused offenders may get away with bail based with evidence in the
case if it does not seem to pose a threat to the community. The problem persists within the conditions
set for their bail, as responsibility lies upon the magistrate or police to impose appropriate conditions.
However, though conditions do vary, it possesses a significant risk if the conditions enforced were not
strict enough, opening vulnerabilities for the accused to commit another crime, slipping through their
enforced conditions.
Yet not enough has been done to alert the community of this flaw, which thus continued to believe that
the criminal law system is protecting them. Effects are potentially dangerous, as individuals would
face the growing rate of criminal activity and with limited policing resources, not everyone ensured to
be protected in an unsafe suburban environment. If this issue continued to remain unresolved in the
long term, it would slowly corrupt society values, with more individuals

The Equalizer Film Analysis
In the film The Equalizer , a thriller/action directed by Antoine Fuqua, there are several key scenes
that build the storyline for the movie, however there was one scene that engaged my attention and I
found had great relevance as I studied this film. It is the first fight scene where Robert McCall fights a
Russian group holed up in a hotel room. Significant aspects that I noticed Fuqua use in this scene were
the characters actions, camera techniques and lighting. I feel as though these 3 techniques were the
most important and the most effective. Fuqua cleverly utilised these techniques in this scene which
helped the audience to understand the characters emotion and to help build tension leading up to the
fight.
I feel that the director s purpose of this scene is to expose and shed a little light upon Robert and how
he approaches tasks as well as the way he thinks and acts in these situations. One example Fuqua has
attempted to portray in this scene is how Robert s mind works differently to most other people and this
is shown when we see Robert opening and closing the door 3 times before finally locking it behind
him. This shows myself and the audience that Robert is some sort of perfectionist and may have some
kind of O.C.D. Locking it behind him tells me that he is extremely confident in his own abilities. I
definitely wouldn t enter the room let alone go in and lock the door. Robert, throughout the whole
scene, is very calm and patient. As he is standing at the door

The Impact of Divorce on Children and Family Dynamics Essays
Introduction: In the last two decades divorce has increased substantially leaving couples single and
families broken. Divorce is the reality for many families as there is an increase in divorce rates,
cohabitation rates, and the number of children raised in step and single marital families. Divorce
cannot be overlooked as it negatively affects and impacts youngsters for the rest of their lives.
Although it is the decision between two parents s children are hurt the most in the process. The
concept of divorce is extremely difficult for children to understand as there are many unanswered
questions and uncertainties. Will my mom or dad remarry and who will I live with? are concerns
children express while going through divorce. Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Education and Dramatic Transformations:
In recent decades the family institution has undergone a dramatic transformation focusing on increased
divorce rates, cohabitation rates, and the number of children raised in step and single marital families
(Amato, 2000; Bumpass Lu, 2000; Graefe Lichter, 1999). Due to the increase of divorce rates children
move more frequently and deal with additional family transitions throughout their childhood (Brown,
2006). As these changes slowly increase, about 40% of kids who are born to wedded, two biological
parent families have a higher chance of parental divorce prior to reaching adulthood(Amato,2000). In
addition, these children will likely experience a multitude of family disruptions and transitions as
parents decide to remarry and progress with new partners. The family atmospheres during these times
are incredibly detrimental to the growth and development of these children (Sun Li, 2009). Research
studies show that parental divorce can compromise educational success for their children. Children in
two parent families have noticeably higher test scores than children who are in single parent families
and also had lower chances of graduating from high school (Sun Li, 2001). One of the rationalizations
for the academic difficulty in divorced

The Impact Of Media Industry On The World Essay
Media industry companies throughout the world has changed significantly during the last decade. Just
as once film industry has been threatened by and had to adjust to the introduction of DVDs instead of
VHS tapes, nowadays, a similar pattern can be identified with introduction of digital platforms.
Various media companies, including film and music production, distribution, television, publishing,
etc. have to not only adapt their services to this emerging development, but also find new ways to keep
up with direct and indirect competitors. The former ones include large over the top services such as
Netflix and Spotify, which have been a sort of pioneers in the field of digital platform distribution and
which are acquiring more and more power by day; the latter ones are self production release platforms,
most evident with Youtube replacing television and blogs replacing printed magazines and
newspapers. Canadian based media companies today are struggling to keep up with the ongoing
movement. This can be clearly seen from current closures, merges that are the result of digital
predominance of big american companies. Throughout the course of the semester, both individually
and in groups, we looked over various distribution paths and explored the existing patterns both in
class and through our assignments. In this carry forward advice paper, I would like to look at some of
the most prominent and noticeable changes in the industry, especially in Canadian premises and draw

Examples Of Effective Scaffolding
In order for Janice to effectively teach her granddaughter how to bake, she must use effective

The process of teaching new skills by entering a child s zone of development and tailoring one s

First, foster a secure attachment. This means building a positive and close relationship with the child.
Second, break larger cognitive challenge. This means breaking complex tasks into baby steps so that it
is achievable for the child to do. Third, give non threatening (but clear) feedback about failure. For
example, when a child does the task incorrectly, you want to correct them in a positive manner. After
they complete the task incorrectly, show show them what they did wrong and then show them the
correct way. This ensures that the child will learn in a positive manner. Fourth, continue helping until
the child has fully mastered the concept before moving on. This means don t move onto the next step
until the child has completely and fully understand the task given. Lastly, set a framework for the
learning task and build in motivation. The last scaffolding technique talks about the teacher telling the
child what the purpose and goal of this concept or activity. These five following techniques are great
ways to effectively scaffold, allowing the child to fully learn/master the new task they are given

1.2 Objective of the study
The objective of preparing this report was to find out:
To review the concept of Balanced Scorecard.
Sustainability of Balanced Scorecard.
Why sometimes the Balanced Scorecard fails?
Proper implementation of Balanced Scorecard and its importance.
Is Balanced Scorecard is a universal solution for measuring the performance?
Is Balanced Scorecard can be developed?
1.3 Scope of the study
This report was prepared by studying many articles, reports, journals, and thesis papers, books on the
Balanced Scorecard (BSC) to find out the proper concept and then find out the objective. Some
organizations don‟t find the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) useful but in actual sense they are wrong. To

The Love Of Love In Medea s Love For Her Children
As horrible as this sounds, I don t believe that Medea ever loved her children, for there was no more
love for her to give that she hadn t already given to Jason, as was demanded of her by Aphrodite and
Hera. What many readers confuse for Medea s love for her children, is in actuality her love for Jason.
As such, her reluctance to murder his sons can be construed as her reluctance to part ways with the last
remnants of her marriage to the Greek. In this sense, it may be said that Medea was a mother who was
very much attached to her children, but not because they pulled at her heartstrings, but because they
reminded her of her union with Jason. When that union comes to a sudden end, Medea s affections for
her children cease to exist, and she cannot help but feel the same contempt for her children as she does
the man who betrayed her love. This change in her behavior is first noted by the nurse, who correctly
anticipates Medea s ill intent towards the children: I ve seen her already blazing eyes at them as
though she meant some mischief and I am sure that she ll not stop raging until she has struck at
someone. (Euripides, pg.4) The nurse s observation brings to light the one dimensionality of Medea s
supposed love for her children; when things were going great with Jason, she loved them, but the
moment things went south, her love for her children disappeared, as though it had never existed in the
first place. Remember, at the beginning of the play, Medea laments her life as a

Was The Tiananmen Massacre Justified
From my perspective, the Tiananmen massacre of 1989 was not justified. The students and protestors
protested because they had a strong agreement of opposition about their current Chinese government
system that needed to be addressed. They wanted democracy for more individual rights and freedom.
Even though illegal organizations were violating laws such as forcibly occupying the Tiananmen
Square and vandalizing establishments, it does not justify the poor government attempt to control the
riots with fully armed military soldiers. The government, Chinese Communist Party and the military
was suppose to improve China s economy and unity, and serve the citizens. Instead they ended up

A Brief Note On Trading Strategy
Trading Strategy
As a portfolio Manager, my goal was to increase the portfolio value using a trading strategy that
combines speculation and diversification (Refer figure 1 in the appendix). As a speculator, I would be
betting on the movement of the underlying asset therefore, it was essential that I diversify my holdings
to minimize the exposure. A diversified portfolio would provide certain protection against the
downside risk if I bet wrong on the price movement. The types of vehicle I invested in were Futures
contract and Stocks. Again, the goal was to diversify within both vehicle types to protect against the
exposure (Refer figure 2 and 3).

Platinum is also great investing option and it is cheaper than gold.

Looking For Sassure Meaning
The image provides a series of signs. There is a woman over a pedestal posing with the lingerie and a
man on a suit leaning on the pedestal. The first order of meaning is that the woman is posing for the
man, swanning carefree on her light and soft silk, exulting in her sexuality. Maybe this scene is
representing a strip show, where the woman, as an object, dances for the critical eyes of a fully dressed
man. The woman is wearing light blue silk lingerie. The colour is a paradigm. For Saussure a
paradigm is a type of code that is a set of signs from which the one to be used is chosen (John Fiske,
1982, Introduction to Communication Studies, 3rd edition, page 54). Thus the colour is a code,
specifically an arbitrary code and it connotes trust, loyalty and heaven and this makes us believe that
she is like an angel, she is a good girl, waiting for the orders of the man. The colour blue makes men
think that they have the heaven with them. Arbitrary or logical codes:

The man is like a little boy who needs to be comforted by his mother. The fact that he is looking down
and she is looking to the camera highlights the power of the woman. The myth of the bourgeoisie idea,
about the masculinity and power of men, is under attack and being destroyed by the femininity.
Barthes saw myth as serving the ideological interests of the bourgeoisie (Barthes 1974, 206). There is
also a homoerotic meaning on the look of the man. Is common to relate the image of a well sculpted
and very good looking man with a homosexual, so the man is feminized. Ironically, Versace chooses to
change the bourgeoisie idea doing the opposite thing that it should be, and there is knowingness about
this between the brand and the

The Issue Of Human Rights
Human rights are perhaps the only concept which has remained the focus of many debates in the
modern world. The mere thought that all humans across the world irrespective of their culture, religion
and race are equal and deserve equality is perhaps the reason why it holds such significance among
people. There is something deeply attractive in the idea that every person anywhere in the world,
irrespective of citizenship or territorial legislation, has some basic rights, which others should respect.
(Sen, 2004) It allows each human being the dignity and respect to live and feel as much important in
the world as any other. Similarly to authenticate the respect and dignity of every individual Universal
Declaration of Human Rights immediately after its preamble declares All human beings are born free
and equal in dignity and rights... (U.N) The charter was drafted keeping in mind the atrocities that
occurred during the second world war. It was a solemn vow that all the nations in the world will
ensure such a catastrophe may never occur and that all shall work together to ensure world peace. The
Universal Declaration of Human Rights hoped it will carry the idea of human rights in to every corner
of the world.(Johnson, 2010) Universal Declaration of Human rights served as the building block on
which the frame work for future human rights was to be built upon. With time other international
conventions or treaties were formulated. This was done to provide a more solid basis to

Walmart uses the various BI tools in order to understand how online behavior influences in store
behaviors and vice versa (SAS Institute Inc.). From the HR perspective, Walmart seeks to understand
how to harness the knowledge of its associates and make it available and accessible for everyone in
the organization (SAS Institute Inc.). This plethora of raw data, along with the high potential to
improve both sales and HR management is a challenging task which creates a significant demand for
analytics talent.
To combat this demand, Walmart decided to apply crowdsourcing, with positive results (Marr, 2015).
In 2014, Walmart turned to crowdsourced analytics competition platform Kaggle for an army of
armchair data scientists who applied their skills to analytical problems submitted by companies (Marr,

move from the big city of Calcutta to the big city of New York is much lonelier because they have no
family nearby and the land is unfamiliar. The climate is also different, it is winter time and the weather
is cold. Ashima is learning very quickly that the living conditions are different. Ashoke explains to her
that they have gas twenty four hours a day, and the difference between hot and cold water symbols.
Also there was no need for her to boil the water for drinking; she could just drink straight from the tap.
Life in America is different and at times lonely, however Ashoke believes it s the land of opportunity.

The clashes are both cultural and generation based. Teenagers in any culture choose not to listen to
their parents, and play loud music as Gogol did in the movie. The Ganguli home is often filled with
Bengali family and friends, and that provides a support system for Ashoke and Ashima. It makes the
Ganguli s feel like they did when they were in India, surrounded by family. Gogol receives some
advice from his aunt before leaving for college. She tells him to have fun, but come home and marry a
Bengali woman. After Gogol leaves home, he meets Maxine who is American in every sense of the
word. She is in the upper social class, and Gogol is attracted to her family because they are American.
They call Gogol, Nick short for Nikhil. He distances himself from his parents by not returning phones
calls, and upsets Ashima when he would rather visit Maxine s parents than his own. Gogol does decide
to stop at his parents on the way to visit Maxine s, out of possible guilt for not keeping in touch. Gogol
introduces Maxine, and she calls Ashima by her first name. It s apparent that is not the respectful
introduction Ashima would have preferred. Again, a clash in cultures, and what s considered
appropriate. Gogol and Maxine leave, and Maxine states she would ve never guessed those were his
parents. Gogol celebrates his birthday with Maxine s family and his mother cannot get in

1905 Revolution Essay
1905 Revolution These days we call anything a revolution… [1] To decide whether or not any event is
a revolution I must first set some parameters to define my personal idea of what a revolution is. I
believe a revolution to be a radical change of anything, not just political. I believe this as from history
labelling the Renaissance as a revolution, yet it lacked political change. In my opinion hindsight is
very important to whether or not something is a revolution. I think you can only decide if something
was revolutionary if you can see its consequences. I do not think revolutionary thought is essential to
whether or not an event is a revolution. To discover whether or not 1905 was a ... Show more content

This resulted in a generalised feeling of resentment towards the Tsar even amongst his supporters. The
political unrest was present through the survival of a poor Minister of the Interior, Viacheslav von
Plehve, until 1904 when he was assassinated. This was the Tsar s chance to quell the political unrest.
He chose a new minister in Prince Sviatopolk Mirskii. However, he had political innocence [3] and
promised vague reform. Basically he was weak and this weakness annoyed both wings of the political
spectrum sustaining the political unrest throughout 1905. Economical unrest is best shown through the
peasants. They were heavy under the weight of redemption payments and oppressive taxes and their
economic unrest was definitely evident preceding 1905, and throughout 1905 they vented their anger.
The ferment in the countryside grew in a menacing way [4], is a good quote describing their
movements as the word menacing seems to suggest they were very dangerous and seems to have
connotations supporting the large numbers that there were. The word ferment supports the fact it
peasant unrest had been building up. One major achievement I can see from the peasant uprisings was
that they were organised by themselves, demonstrating their own political thought and this was
cemented in July of the year when the

End Of Lost Research Paper
On the other hand, thinking about the past six years of Lost. This series has the most to the original
spirit and the most difficult to predict the plot of series, affects the hearts of the audience. There are
countless versions of misgivings theory on Internet, even after broadcasting the finale, there are still
spreading different explainations of the plot. For thousands of fans and the actor in the play, the end of
Lost does not means the end of a six years show. During the period of several major TV networks

In the beginning of Lost was born, however, it has no ambition. In 2004, ABC invited the scriptwriter
whose good at sci fi story, JJ Abrams, to create a script about plane crashed and how those survivors
save themselves on the island. However, both JJ and the other two scripywriters, Damon Lindelof and
Jeffrey Lieber agree that the story should not be too simple. Then they began to complicate the story,
who knows the creation can not stop. The two hours opening is just as fascinating as a film. and that is
just the beginning. Invisible monster, polar bears, mysterious jungle waves comes out one after
another, challengeing the imagination of audience. Only like CSI, in each set of independent episodes
can last longer time, the producer is very pessimistic, thought Lost doomed to fail. Executive producer
Bryan Burk recalls that: in 2004, there were two things that TV drama could not touch, which are TV
series and science fiction. As we know, Lost accounts for both of them. Surprisingly, the premiere of
Lost attracted 19 million viewers. This was considered as doomed tragedy , but now it becomes so
popular. By this time, the scriptwriter thinks about how to continue to catch audience s attention, how
can this be a very ambitious story, in a reasonable and let everybody unexpected ways to continue?
Executive producer Carlton Cuse joined and made a plan with Lindelof together. The plan is deny all
the inherent thinking of how to survive on the island. Cuse recalls that: For example, according to the
common sense, which the island needs help from an interim government, somebody needs to lead
them, make a legal system. But we have the question, why it has to be this kind of development? As a
result, the reverse thinking, lead us gradually found the unprecedented story

Honor Definition Essay
The definition of honor is high respect; esteem. My view of honor is someone that has sacrificed
something, someone that has done something for someone and expects nothing in return. Someone
who has or is changing the way we live for the better. The scientist I chose is Ernest Rutherford. Most
People know him as The Father of Nuclear Physics. At age 10, he constructed his first science
experiment, which was building a mini cannon, which earned his scholarship in 1887 to attend Nelson
Collegiate School. In 1890, he received a scholar ship to attend Canterbury College in New Zealand,
where he received his Bachelor and Master of Arts Degree. In 1894, he researched the ability of high
frequency electrical discharge to magnetize iron which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also while he was there, he was invited by Professor J.J Thomason to study the conductivity of gases,
resulting in a paper about dividing atoms and molecules into ions. This lead Rutherford on to taking a
closer look at ion producing radiations and he discovered that putting uranium near foil will result in
one type of radiation being easily soaked up or blocked, while another type had no problem
penetrating the same foil. Then, he labeled the two radiation types alpha and beta. He then found out
that the alpha particle was the same as the nucleus of the helium atom, and the beta was the same as an
electron or composition. He took a professorship at McGill University of Montreal and left Cambridge
in 1902. In 1903, he and Fredrick Soddy introduced their disintegration theory of radioactivity, and it
claimed that radioactive energy was emitted from within an atom and that when alpha and beta
particles were emitted at the same time they caused a chemical change across elements. Rutherford
and Bertam Borden Boltwood, continued to categorize radioactive elements into what they called a
decay series. Rutherford was honored with discovering the radioactive gas radon while at McGill. He
achieved fame for his contributions to understanding of radioelements, and published many magazine

  • 2. The Theory Of Plate Tectonics And Earth s Crust Displacement For millions of years the Earth has experienced geologic catastrophes. Since the existence of Theia itself, the Earth s crust has been formed, deformed, and even demolished. The crust has never been a completed masterpiece due to this. Why is this? The most recent physical changes were caused by the theory of plate tectonics and earth s crust displacement. Plate tectonics and its movement resulted in our continents drifting across the earth s surface, and the creation of mountain belts, volcanoes, and the faults of today s Earth. A German meteorologist and explorer Alfred Wegener put forth the theory of continental drift in the early 1900 s. Wegener pointed out that the earth s continents looked as if they were all connected at one point in time. He also pointed out that some of earth s features, including the long S shaped mountain structure formed on the Atlantic seafloor, could fit snugly against the corresponding western seafloor of Europe and Africa (Sieh and LeVay 1998). Wegener proposed that all of the earth s continents once formed one single landmass, which he named Pangaea or all land . He concluded that Pangaea had broken up and separated due to the unidentifiable forces estimated 300 million years ago (Sieh and LeVay 1998). Geologists did not fully understand at the time that Earth s continents could drift (Hazen 2012). After all, the continents do not float in the oceans. They are made from a solid material connecting to the mantle, a sphere of solid rock ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, it made me question the true motives of the actions the characters in the Oresteia perform. Are they a form of justice or revenge? In the system that was practiced throughout the play, revenge drives the characters to act. And although they call it justice, it is not. Aeschylus uses net imagery that originates in the first play Agamemnon and plays a crucial role in the subject of faith and destiny. From Cassandra s vision to Clytemnestra executing that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Second, it gives the sense that Agamemnon was never in charge of his own fate, a theme that repeats in the Oresteia. Agamemnon, the fish in this scenario, seems like a helpless creature. Third, since a fishing net is unseen by its prey, Agamemnon does not know the fate that awaits him. This, in turn, can be connected to Cassandra s vision that symbolizes Clytemnestra as the net. Now the net [Clytemnestra] the fish eye terror [Agamemnon]. Death is bundling him up, like a mother swaddling a child (55). If the consensus is that Clytemnestra did this deed solely for the purpose of avenging her daughter s death, ignoring Aegisthus involvement for the moment, then I could not have said it better myself. By understanding Clytemnestra is the net in Cassandra s vision, and the fish is Agamemnon, the reader can focus on the urgent need for revenge that Clytemnestra holds. Another passage that relates well to these two is the chorus s response to Clytemnestra. After revealing the murder, she is compared to a spider that had cast a web. The spider s web swaddled him helpless (75). The change of the net imagery is what makes this sentence unique. Throughout the play, Clytemnestra is symbolized as a serpent, a spider and more. Now, she is the spider, perhaps the black widow, who eats their significant others. She is once again in a position of power and superiority ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Understanding Pro Social Behaviour Among Humans ( Cikara ) The ability for an individual to recognize another s suffering and experience the same emotions to some extent is common in order to promote pro social behaviour among humans (Cikara, Bruneau, Van Bavel, Saxe, 2014). This ability to empathize with others begins early on and is motivated by the need to alleviate the distress in another when they are suffering. As noted by de Waal (2008), empathy occurs quickly and automatically as a way to respond to the emotional states of others, in turn being a major part of social interactions, coordinated activity, and cooperation toward shared goals. Thus, de Waal (2008) discusses the three different levels of empathy, among which are emotional contagion, sympathetic concern, and empathic perspective taking. Firstly, emotional contagion is simply about automatic sharing as the individual takes on the emotional state of another even without any understanding of the other (de Waal, 2008). Next, de Waal (2008) suggests sympathetic concern is when an individual attempts to understand and reduce distress in the other (i.e. comforting behaviour), as there is knowledge that the response is about the other. Lastly, empathic perspective taking occurs when an individual is dependent on imagination and mental state attribution as it is entirely about the other and separate from the self (de Waal, 2008). There is much research done to suggest that there are failures in peoples ability to empathize (Cikara et al. 2014; Brown, Bradley, Lang, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sometimes they are merely backdrops to the human element of the story but in stories such as The Odyssey the gods play a prominent if not vital role to the central themes of the story. Fate has a place in the Greek world but is place is not the same as it is in other scenarios or worlds. It is important to understand the word before we discuss it. Fate as far as Greek mythology goes is not just fate, by most standards fate is described as things that occur for an unknown reason that no one has any control over. Ann, a critic of The Odyssey says, Blaming the gods for your faults doesn t always work, though. There s a difference between having a fate and accepting your fate. The real heroes never give in. Christopher Novan s Use Of Narrative Structure In Memento In Christopher Nolan s 2001 neo noir psychological thriller, Memento, he explores the idea of trust through a unique narrative structure. The film explores trust through the protagonist, Leonard Shelby and his interactions with characters, Natalie and Teddy in his hunt for the man who raped his wife. The structure of the film is split into two parts: colour scenes (the main plot line) and black and white scenes (the sub plot line). Nolan alternates between the two; however, the colour scenes are shown backwards in time, from Leonard s point of view, in first person; and the black and whites scenes are told forwards in a documentary style with just voice over and simple images. The start of the film opens with a scene literally shown backwards, which makes the audience aware of the structure of the way the story will be told. Issue and effect on individuals and society Prior to 28th January 2015, bail laws posed significant loopholes in the system and are deemed to be ineffective to achieve justice. Accused offenders may get away with bail based with evidence in the case if it does not seem to pose a threat to the community. The problem persists within the conditions set for their bail, as responsibility lies upon the magistrate or police to impose appropriate conditions. However, though conditions do vary, it possesses a significant risk if the conditions enforced were not strict enough, opening vulnerabilities for the accused to commit another crime, slipping through their enforced conditions. Yet not enough has been done to alert the community of this flaw, which thus continued to believe that the criminal law system is protecting them. Effects are potentially dangerous, as individuals would face the growing rate of criminal activity and with limited policing resources, not everyone ensured to be protected in an unsafe suburban environment. If this issue continued to remain unresolved in the long term, it would slowly corrupt society values, with more individuals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Equalizer Film Analysis In the film The Equalizer , a thriller/action directed by Antoine Fuqua, there are several key scenes that build the storyline for the movie, however there was one scene that engaged my attention and I found had great relevance as I studied this film. It is the first fight scene where Robert McCall fights a Russian group holed up in a hotel room. Significant aspects that I noticed Fuqua use in this scene were the characters actions, camera techniques and lighting. I feel as though these 3 techniques were the most important and the most effective. Fuqua cleverly utilised these techniques in this scene which helped the audience to understand the characters emotion and to help build tension leading up to the fight. I feel that the director s purpose of this scene is to expose and shed a little light upon Robert and how he approaches tasks as well as the way he thinks and acts in these situations. One example Fuqua has attempted to portray in this scene is how Robert s mind works differently to most other people and this is shown when we see Robert opening and closing the door 3 times before finally locking it behind him. This shows myself and the audience that Robert is some sort of perfectionist and may have some kind of O.C.D. Locking it behind him tells me that he is extremely confident in his own abilities. I definitely wouldn t enter the room let alone go in and lock the door. Robert, throughout the whole scene, is very calm and patient. As he is standing at the door ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although people feel that a divorce lies between the parents children are affected and hurt the most. Education and Dramatic Transformations: In recent decades the family institution has undergone a dramatic transformation focusing on increased divorce rates, cohabitation rates, and the number of children raised in step and single marital families (Amato, 2000; Bumpass Lu, 2000; Graefe Lichter, 1999). Due to the increase of divorce rates children move more frequently and deal with additional family transitions throughout their childhood (Brown, 2006). As these changes slowly increase, about 40% of kids who are born to wedded, two biological parent families have a higher chance of parental divorce prior to reaching adulthood(Amato,2000). In addition, these children will likely experience a multitude of family disruptions and transitions as parents decide to remarry and progress with new partners. The family atmospheres during these times are incredibly detrimental to the growth and development of these children (Sun Li, 2009). Research studies show that parental divorce can compromise educational success for their children. Children in two parent families have noticeably higher test scores than children who are in single parent families and also had lower chances of graduating from high school (Sun Li, 2001). One of the rationalizations for the academic difficulty in divorced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Just as once film industry has been threatened by and had to adjust to the introduction of DVDs instead of VHS tapes, nowadays, a similar pattern can be identified with introduction of digital platforms. Various media companies, including film and music production, distribution, television, publishing, etc. have to not only adapt their services to this emerging development, but also find new ways to keep up with direct and indirect competitors. The former ones include large over the top services such as Netflix and Spotify, which have been a sort of pioneers in the field of digital platform distribution and which are acquiring more and more power by day; the latter ones are self production release platforms, most evident with Youtube replacing television and blogs replacing printed magazines and newspapers. Canadian based media companies today are struggling to keep up with the ongoing movement. This can be clearly seen from current closures, merges that are the result of digital predominance of big american companies. Throughout the course of the semester, both individually and in groups, we looked over various distribution paths and explored the existing patterns both in class and through our assignments. The Love Of Love In Medea s Love For Her Children As horrible as this sounds, I don t believe that Medea ever loved her children, for there was no more love for her to give that she hadn t already given to Jason, as was demanded of her by Aphrodite and Hera. What many readers confuse for Medea s love for her children, is in actuality her love for Jason. As such, her reluctance to murder his sons can be construed as her reluctance to part ways with the last remnants of her marriage to the Greek. In this sense, it may be said that Medea was a mother who was very much attached to her children, but not because they pulled at her heartstrings, but because they reminded her of her union with Jason. When that union comes to a sudden end, Medea s affections for her children cease to exist, and she cannot help but feel the same contempt for her children as she does the man who betrayed her love. This change in her behavior is first noted by the nurse, who correctly anticipates Medea s ill intent towards the children: I ve seen her already blazing eyes at them as though she meant some mischief and I am sure that she ll not stop raging until she has struck at someone. (Euripides, pg.4) The nurse s observation brings to light the one dimensionality of Medea s supposed love for her children; when things were going great with Jason, she loved them, but the moment things went south, her love for her children disappeared, as though it had never existed in the first place. But we have the question, why it has to be this kind of development? As a result, the reverse thinking, lead us gradually found the unprecedented story ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Honor Definition Essay The definition of honor is high respect; esteem. My view of honor is someone that has sacrificed something, someone that has done something for someone and expects nothing in return. Someone who has or is changing the way we live for the better. The scientist I chose is Ernest Rutherford. Most People know him as The Father of Nuclear Physics. At age 10, he constructed his first science experiment, which was building a mini cannon, which earned his scholarship in 1887 to attend Nelson Collegiate School. In 1890, he received a scholar ship to attend Canterbury College in New Zealand, where he received his Bachelor and Master of Arts Degree. In 1894, he researched the ability of high frequency electrical discharge to magnetize iron which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also while he was there, he was invited by Professor J.J Thomason to study the conductivity of gases, resulting in a paper about dividing atoms and molecules into ions. This lead Rutherford on to taking a closer look at ion producing radiations and he discovered that putting uranium near foil will result in one type of radiation being easily soaked up or blocked, while another type had no problem penetrating the same foil. Then, he labeled the two radiation types alpha and beta. He then found out that the alpha particle was the same as the nucleus of the helium atom, and the beta was the same as an electron or composition. He took a professorship at McGill University of Montreal and left Cambridge in 1902. In 1903, he and Fredrick Soddy introduced their disintegration theory of radioactivity, and it claimed that radioactive energy was emitted from within an atom and that when alpha and beta particles were emitted at the same time they caused a chemical change across elements. Rutherford and Bertam Borden Boltwood, continued to categorize radioactive elements into what they called a decay series. Rutherford was honored with discovering the radioactive gas radon while at McGill. He achieved fame for his contributions to understanding of radioelements, and published many magazine ...
