language that has been declining in use over the last number of years, which limits
the learning of patterns in today s development environment where the dominant
programming language taught and used, as far as patterns are concerned is Java,
although patterns can be implemented in any object orientated programming language.
The patterns exhibited are described in very concise and restricted examples that lack
a comprehensive context in order for the reader to gain a full understanding of the use
of the pattern in question. The patterns throughout the book are also presented in
isolation to each other which hinders the illustration of pattern interaction and thus
the full benefit to those wishing to learn how to implement design patterns.
Allen Holub produced a book Holub on Patterns Learning Design Patterns by
Looking at Code , which detailed the use of design patterns while developing a
game called Game of Life. The Game of Life is a cellular automation program,
which begins with cells that are classed as either alive or dead . The idea is then
that each cell follows a set of rules to determine which whether it can live or whether
it must die .
Holubs book, published in 2004 addressed some of the shortcomings of the GoF
publication, such as the patterns were now demonstrated in Java, which has become
the favoured language of the software development industry,

An Analysis Of La Persistencia De La Memoria
Another surrealist work of art by Salvador Dali is La Persistencia de la Memoria (fig.
2). It was painted in 1931, and is an oil on canvas. The painting can be found at The
Museum of Modern Art in New York City, NY, with dimensions of 33 x 24.1 cm. La
Persistencia de la Memoria (fig. 2) is Salvador Dali s most famous painting. The oil
painting is set in a desert area with a lake or pond casting off into the background.
The rocks in the background are very sharp but the rest of the background is
smooth. The sky is a gentle blue with yellow tones that blend together. On the left
side of the painting, is a rectangular board or platform with a reflective surface. The

The clocks all look thin and noodle like with the box being rough and wooden.
Finally, the white figure has a smooth exterior with the lashes looking like actual
hair. Salvador Dali s painting, La Persistencia de la Memoria (fig. 2), represents the
scientific Freudian influence. Everything appears to be in a dream like state
because nothing makes logical sense (Eggener 36). Each clock represents a
different time in life, whether it is his past, is current state, or his future. The
jagged cracks in the mountains symbolize the rough patches or cracks that one
must go through in life and the reflections in the water and platform show how
those mistakes reflect who we are. The dead tree shows that eventually we all will
grow old and die. Lastly, the white figure is Salvador Dali and how his life is slowly
ticking away as well and the eyes are shut because he is reflecting on it in a dream.
The final artwork of Salvador Dali s that exemplifies Surrealism is Portrait de Paul
Eluard (fig. 3). This artwork was painted in 1929 is also an oil on canvas. It can be
found in the Dali Theatre and Museum, Figueres, Spain. The dimensions of Portrait
de Paul Eluard (fig. 3) are 33 x 25 cm. The painting is of a man named Paul Eluard
who was a French poet and one of the founders of Surrealism. Eluard was also Dali
s futures wife s boyfriend at the time. Portrait de Paul Eluard (fig. 3) is full of
multiple objects that are all very abstract. The
