The King could no longer put innocent people in jail.
This relates to Rule of Law because the King couldn’t do
anything he wanted anymore i.e. putting innocent people in
jail.
3. GLORIOUS REVOLUTION
It took place on the British Isles
William of Orange took place as King
The Magna Carta changed the power of the kings
4. ENGLISH BILL OF RIGHTS
It was written in 1689
It limited the power of the Kings. It also added the aditional
power of Parliament.
5. THE ENLIGHTENMENT
Was a period when people realized that they had minds, and
they were all equal. They realized that we are all born with
natural rights.
This took place in the 17-1800’s
It is important because it was a revolution for the people.
They stopped believing things and doing things just because
the church said so, they found out for themselves.
6. CHARLES-LOUIS MONTESQUIEU
He was from France.
He is most known for his Separation of Powers, as well as
his discussions of modern government.
7. JOHN LOCKE
He as from Wrington, Somerset, England
He lived from August 1632 to October 1704
Natural rights are Rights that we are born with. Rights that
governments can deny.
8. JEAN JACQUES ROUSSEAU
He is from Geneva, Republic of Geneva
He lived from June 1712 to July 1778
The Social Contract was a book that inspired social reform
and revolutions in Europe.
9. THOMAS JEFFERSON
He was from Shadwell, Virginia
He wrote the Declaration of Independence
He changed “Property” to “Pursuit of Happiness” because
some people weren’t entitled to own land, But they were
entitled to happiness.
