1. DETAIL CONCENTRATION SCREEN SCHOOL , THE HAGUE (the Netherlands), 2007 DOCUMENTATION PURUSHA VAN DE GRAAF

2. You can sense colors with your eyes and … blindfolded! As part of the opening of the new classroom I organized a workshop for the children and for the teachers. Without knowing how the screen looked like, everyone was lead into the room blindfolded and was put in every little colored ‘cell’. The only question I asked was “What do you feel?” What do you sense?”. The result was wonderful and surprising for the participators of the workshop: “It feels like I am in the ocean.” “I smell a herb garden.” Blindfolded: “I don’t feel comfortable with this color!” By seeing the color: “But this is my favorite color!?” “It feels like the sun is shining.” By this experience the children and teachers use this screen differently when they only would look at the colors. They know now that they have to feel which color is the right color for them. The right color for that particularly moment of concentration (f.e. making a test / homework). 34. With this open space in the middle of the office creating space for contemplation. Research in the literature, in co-operation with the University of Technology Delft (Faculty of Industrial Design), confirmed the vision of De Witte Lelie about contemplation: a moment for yourself to distinguish main points from side-issues. This project was realized to support a transformation process. To experience the main values of the company: openness, honesty and diversity.

KUNST & CULTUURDAG BEZOEK 2de KLAS (75 jongeren) GYMNASIUM NOVUM (VOORBURG) 2008 Leerdoelen In tegenstelling tot de lessen in de kunstvakken in het gewone rooster, kunnen de leerlingen in dit project een hele dag focussen op een maakproces, er als het ware induiken. We willen zo de mogelijkheid bieden meer diepgang in het maakproces te bereiken dan mogelijk is in een ‘gewone’ les. Dit is ook het geval omdat de leerlingen voor die discipline kunnen kiezen waarin ze zich het meest op hun gemak voelen. De focus van het maakproces zal naar ons idee moeten liggen op de persoonlijke benadering van de leerling. Er is niet een ‘juiste manier’ van vertaling van de inspiratiebron. De uitkomst van hun maakproces moet eerder interessant dan juist zijn. Het product kan verhalend zijn, of alleen een sfeer of een gevoel uitdrukken, maar kan ook abstract zijn. Dat ligt aan de associaties die een leerling heeft naar aanleiding van de ochtend aan atelier De Witte Lelie. Het is wel de bedoeling om de leerlingen te stimuleren om niet gelijk de meest voor de hand liggende ideeën te kiezen, maar eerst verschillende mogelijkheden door te denken, en aan elkaar voor te stellen. Het project heeft de bedoeling om vooral een inhoudelijke discussie aan te zwengelen over kunst, om leerlingen zich af te laten vragen: waar gaat het over? Een bepaalde kwaliteit en ambacht in de uitvoering is nodig om de boodschap over te brengen, maar is niet het doel van de dag.

In 1978 I had the choice to study art at the ‘Rietveld Academie’ Art Academy in Amsterdam or to follow a study becoming a welfare worker. I choose the last one and finished it positively in 1984. However, after a few years of working experience, my passion was to strong. I founded an art gallery in 1989 and since 1992 I sell and exhibit my own work. My way of living ánd working originates from the path I followed from 1983 to 1993, the path of Advaita Vedanta: the ‘non-dualistic path beyond knowledge’.
