Fulgencio Proposed Definition • As a human-technology interaction innovation entity utilizing a mix of methods, tools and principles drawn from known disciplines (design, science, etc.) and set in a real environment and in a locale/societal scale. • In addition, the phenomenon operates in a “multi-” mode that is evident by its multi-stakeholders, and multi-discipline, nature which eventually leads to a multi-method approach, and often implemented multi-culturally for internationally collaborated Living Lab project. The phenomenon is within the context of innovation and has multiple applications.

- Human Technology Interaction means that an individual/ user/ consumer/ participant interacts with a computer technology or a new process incorporating technology (Salminen, 2009). More details can be read via “Human-Centered Systems” (Huang, Jones, & Kasif, 1997). Entity means that it has the following state: first, the origin of the Living Lab as an instrumented environment reminiscent of an in-situ environment for research; second, the Living Lab as a project utilizing Living Lab method is utilized together with other methods; and third, Living Lab as a platform/organization/broker that is engaged in a particular context and connecting parties interested in innovation.
