3. Why TalkTime? – Council Goals
• Hurstville: „a diverse and harmonious City with a strong
sense of community, providing a range of social, cultural,
education and leisure opportunities‟ (Hurstville City
Council, 2004, p.16).
• Establishment of a Council online presence, aiming to
foster an online community.
• Selection of the Library Museum & Gallery (LMG) as the
facilitating body charged with the design and
implementation of the online community project initiative.
4. Why TalkTime? – LMG Strategic Plan
• The LMG strategic plan commits to „the delivery of programs to
Hurstville‟s diverse community [and] the LMG‟s regional reach‟.
(Schulz?)
• The LMG strategic plan also understands “the challenges of
technology in delivering local and virtual access to… service[s]”.
(Schulz, 2010, p.5)
• The Library aims to develop and deliver “sustainable programs and
projects that will provide strategic momentum for the overall LMG
Service into the future”. (Schulz, 2010, p.4)
• the overall LMG Service will see Hurstville and the LMG as “a centre
of cultural excellence which educates, inspires and engages
Hurstville‟s diverse community through innovative programs and
services that foster creativity, celebrate local identity and support
lifelong learning” (Schulz, 2010, p.6) (4).
5. Why TalkTime? – LMG Goals
• The LMG wishes to effectively engage with local CALD
communities to:
“research and develop skills for the 21st Century Support Strategy
including delivery by LMG of courses, activities, programs that
actively support lifelong learning with a focus on the key literacies:
literacy, information technology literacy, cultural literacy, civic literacy
etc. Collaborate with Community Services to engage with youth,
children, older adults, CALD communities, etc.” (Schulz, 2010, p.15).
• TalkTime can achieve consistency and sustainability using
an online delivery module with a deeply embedded social
component.
