Chris Curington Nicole Musgrave Abigail Stevens The university-community partnership is a mechanism through which a university recognizes its strategic role in shaping the health of the surrounding community. The Florida State University’s Department of Urban & Regional Planning Fall 2010 Studio examined Tallahassee conditions and national best practices to identify approaches to local redevelopment. The Ohio State University’s Campus Partners for Community Urban Redevelopment and the Chattanooga Downtown Riverfront programs will be presented as models of redevelopment processes. How local conditions influence adaptation of these examples of partnership as instruments for infill will be considered and the community benefits inherent in such organizations will be stressed.

This presentation showcases the results obtained in the paper titled ‘Factors influencing citizens co-production of environmental services’, which explores the role that local government-level factors play in shaping pro-environmental behavior in citizen involvement in the production of public services. To do so, this study analyzes the enablers and barriers of public services’ coproduction, both at the individual and institutional levels. To understand the salience of individual and organizational influences on citizens’ coproduction, the authors analyze the pro-environmental behaviours of a sample of citizens in Wales. Environmental sustainability is seen as perhaps the paradigmatic societal challenge requiring citizens’ coproductive efforts. This research constitutes one of the results of the research project ‘CITADEL: Empowering Citizens to Transform European Public Administrations’, funded by the European Commission within the program H2020 Horizon, under GA 726755.

Many Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) are actively gathering biological, environmental, and social data in the Mekong Basin, but do not always have the capacity or resources to effectively manage, analyze, and share these data. NGOs often gather data in the form of rapid surveys and interviews, or through participatory methods. This information can address topics such as food security, livelihoods, biodiversity assessments, and environmental monitoring. For example, FISHBIO, a private fisheries company in Lao PDR, has conducted a number of studies with other NGOs. These projects include assessments of fisheries, household food consumption, and market sales in the Nam Kading Basin; movements of tagged fish from Fish Conservation Zones in the Nam Kading River; and surveys of fishing practices and local knowledge in Xayabouri and Luang Prabang provinces. Collaborations with NGOs can strengthen government and academic research, and fill in data gaps. However, many regional organizations and institutions often face a number of challenges, such as the lack of personnel and staff time to analyze collected data; loss of data or institutional knowledge with staff turnover; and a lack of outlets for disseminating the results of their data collection. FISHBIO is currently working to build the Mekong Fish Network, a resource that strives to address some of these challenges by building the capacity of all types Mekong Basin institutions to conduct research, and by providing an online platform to share research findings and communicate with other researchers.

Mobility of the city is very important for livable cities. General impression of the people regarding the urban mobility in Kathmandu Valley is very bad. Perception of the people is gathered through the questionnaire from people of Kathmandu. Various indicators are grouped in six categories namely - environmental criteria, social/cultural sustainability, economic criteria, infrastructure/engineering/technological, institutional sustainability and good governance. Questionnaire survey was conducted to assess the people’s perception of three districts of Kathmandu Valley. This study deals the people’s perception. In a 2010 study by World Bank, it was evidenced that people lack proper services because systems fail, often because not enough resources are invested to appropriately build and maintain them, and also because of the stress that the fast growing population places on the existing infrastructure. According to Migori county report card in 2016, it was established that there was lack of continuity in water projects commenced and that construction of water projects does not help if they fail after a short time. This study analyzed the influence of community participation on water project performance in Migori County. The study specifically; examined influence of communication, management skill, technology and monitoring and evaluation on water project performance. The conceptualization of the study was guided by Resource dependence, the theory of Change, System theory and the Theory of Constraints. The study applied descriptive approach through survey design. The target population comprised of 228 stakeholders and water service company staffs working on water project in Migori County. The sample size of the study was 145 respondents arrived at using a 1967 Taro Yamane’s formula of sample size determination. Data analysis was done by descriptive statistics. The study revealed that monitoring and evaluation is statistically significant influence on water project performance (β=0.152, p<0.05). The study concluded that project managers have adequate and experience in project management. Projects have clear documentation and the company has project progress reports. The study recommends that county government should empower project managers at County levels to improve planning and implementation towards the goal of sustaining water projects benefits, Non-Governmental Organizations to evaluate the performance and sustainability of water projects vis a vis the community participation at all stages of the project cycle.

Discover the Kisan Call Centre: Your Gateway to Agricultural Assistance KISAN CALL CENTRE In order to harness the potential of ICT in Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare launched the scheme “Kisan Call Centres” (KCCs) on January 21, 2004. Main aim of the scheme is to answer farmers’ queries on a telephone call in their own language. These call centres are working in 21 different locations in the country covering all the States and UTs. A countrywide common eleven digit Toll Free Number 1800-180-1551 has been allotted for Kisan Call Centre. This number is accessible through mobile phones and landlines of all telecom networks including private service providers. Replies to the farmers’ queries are given in 22 local languages. Kisan Call Centre services are available from 6.00 AM to 10.00 PM on all seven days of the week at each KCC location. Kisan Call Centre agents known as Farm Tele Advisors (FTAs), who are graduate or above (i.e. PG or Doctorate) in Agriculture or allied sectors (Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Poultry, Bee-Keeping, Sericulture, Aquaculture, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Marketing, Bio-Technology, Home Science, etc.) and possess excellent communication skills in respective local language. Queries which cannot be answered by FTAs are transferred to higher level experts. These experts are Subject Matter Specialists (SMSs) of State Departments of Agriculture (SDAs), ICAR Institutes, KVKs and State Agricultural Universities (SAUs). A Kisan Knowledge Management System (KKMS) has been developed to capture all the details of the caller and sending gist of answer given through SMS. KKMS has its independent website : http://dackkms.gov.in. The KCC, FTAs working at various KCC locations throughout the country have access to this website through their specific IDs and password provided to them. Welcome to the Kisan Call Centre - your one-stop destination for agricultural assistance and support. With dedicated team of experts and cutting-edge technology, we're here to revolutionize the way farmers access information and guidance.
