1. Literature Search With Google Scholar Research in Harry Potter; Film, Game, Fans & Franchise By Naomi Roberts

2. Introduction I will begin my search by typing 'Harry Potter' in Google Scholar, then going to Scholar Preferences. I will then be searching for articles under Sheffield Hallam University, progressing on to the Advanced Scholar Search. I’ll then narrowow down my search with 'Harry Potter film game fan franchise' and search for articles published between the years 2000 and 2010, searching in the subject area of Social Sciences.

5. This article came from ‘The International Journal of Cultural Studies’ by Henry Jenkins (2004). Although this article included the key words I searched for, such as ‘Harry Potter’, ‘fan’ and ‘franchise’ I quickly found it was not really relevant to my particular research. The article focuses more on children's rights to read Harry Potter. There is an interesting part on Warner Brothers wanting to shut down Harry Potter Fan sites, but there is not enough depth and it is not relevant enough to my particular research. The link on the previous slide entitled ‘The Adventure continues on DVD’ was not needed as it was only a very short pice of writing stating that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is being released on DVD. Law and Contemporary Problems The first section of the article was not relevant as it has nothing to do with Harry Potter. However, the second part is about fan fiction and fan art. Jessica Litman talks about how author JK Rowling may feel about fan fiction. If she was to make a point of saying she doesn’t want specific issues created by the fans then the fans should respect her wishes, but would they? The Second page talks about book to film adaptations. I think this is an important subject when a book series is so popular and has a large fan base. The article talks about readers envisioning characters differently in the book than they are portrayed in films. It is impossible to please everyone when it comes to adaptations. I agree that listening, viewing and playing can engage the imagination, especially if it’s through interactive forms of media such as games.

13. Conclusion I didn’t find it very difficult finding general articles on Harry Potter, however i did find it hard finding information about the fandom. This is why I extended my search to include games as well. I found it difficult accessing academic works on the Harry Potter franchise. Although I discovered Jenkins is a good researcher to look into as it’s evident he’s done a lot of work in transmedia. I was also impressed to find some information on adaptations, as this is an important part of the Harry Potter franchise, as it originates from a book series. I feel I have benefited from this research exercise as I have previously not known how to search so specifically for online books and journals.
