It can be a challenge to provide engaging and interactive staff development that equips staff with the skills they need to contextualise and apply technology in their own teaching. The challenge is even greater when you need to change attitudes towards technology and encourage team working. This will demonstrate a ‘Roadshow’ approach and how this has made a major impact within Learning Providers. Armed with a variety of mobile technologies for participants to explore, the Roadshow provides interactive training with an emphasis on collaborative scenario based activities, aimed at teachers and trainers. Participants are encouraged to chose a scenario or invent their own scenario, taking into consideration a particular student/group that they teach. They then use the technology to create a resource they then ‘sell’ the idea to the whole group.

Speakers: Ben Watson, accessible information adviser, University of Kent Julia Taylor, subject specialist, Jisc Many organisations struggle to get staff engaging with technology enhanced learning. They also struggle to meet the needs of disabled students in efficient and sustainable ways. The two are not unrelated. Technology can be the most effective way of giving disabled students inclusive resources and experiences and the Equality Act can be a convincing argument for staff to engage.

Total learning: learn faster, work smarter with four systems in one We know that up to 90% of learning takes place outside formal training or e-learning, with the majority of learning coming from casual interactions with our colleagues and peers, or from purely informal, self-directed learning. But the learning industry is still struggling to develop innovative systems that integrate with how people learn today. In this session Charles explores how a 'total learning' approach meets not only the needs of today's learners, but, crucially, how it can deliver real value for forward-thinking organisations. Charles demonstrates how Brightwave's total learning system – tessello – provides an environment that allows L&D teams to improve productivity, generate value and transform their position in the business. The session explores: ● How technology that uses the Tin Can API delivers an enhanced learning environment – putting learners in control of their own learning and allowing them to record a wide range of online and offline learning (including informal) experiences ● How informal and social learning works alongside formal learning resources – without the need for a separate platform ● How powerful analytics provide rich insight into how learning is being experienced and applied – helping organisations make informed decisions to improve learning and ensuring it remains relevant and business focussed ● How to keep your best people engaged and in the organisation – providing learners with an environment that allows them to find information they need and when they need it, as well as connecting them to other experts across organisational silos, boosting engagement and so reducing staff attrition ● How improving the performance of your people, by helping them learn faster and smarter, boosts the performance of the organisation. IT budget cuts post-recession have forced education CIO’s to increase dependence on emerging cost-effective technologies like collaboration platforms, web based applications and the now buzzed Cloud Computing. However, the technology invasion in education is still nascent and various revolutionary concepts, like augmented reality and semantic web, are on the verge of becoming mainstream. To penetrate beyond the inevitable hype and disruption, this webinar will be looking at the following: - The best emerging technologies that education software providers should invest in - Technologies recommended for classroom adoption among educational institutions - Effects of adopting such disruptive technologies - Obtaining the best out of established technologies

Many institutions see technology as a strategy to increase revenues and decrease campus-bases classrooms and resources. However, as emerging technologies shift the course from teaching-centered to learning-centered, historically effective strategies may no longer provide the same return on investment. This session examines how we can maximize the return on value of technology to increase learner engagement, add instructional options, and improve faculty efficacy.

Colleges and universities face a variety of pressures. Two pressure points are adjusting to the evolving landscape of higher education and using finite resources efficiently and effectively. Technology-enhanced “flipped” classrooms, the rise of digital scholarship, and a keener focus on assessment are examples of the former. Space, time, money, and staff expertise are examples of the latter. These pressures become even more pointed at smaller institutions. How have academic library and information technology organizations been contributing toward effective solutions? Some have embraced a path toward greater convergence of IT and library services. Has doing so enabled institutions to adjust sooner and more quickly to shifts in our higher education environment? Has it stimulated innovation? Has it helped eliminate duplicative effort? NITLE Shared Academics seminar leader Terry Metz delves into these questions, explores why and how the work of technologists and librarians is growing more and more similar, and highlights some colleges that have aligned technology and library talent in more integrated ways. Examine the benefits and challenges of converging IT and library services and consider future implications.

God is a creative God Gen 1:1. All that He created was “good”, could also be translated “beautiful”. God created man in His own image Gen 1:27. Maths helps us discover the beauty that God has created in His world and, in turn, create beautiful designs to serve and enrich the lives of others.

In BC’s nearly-decade-old “new” curriculum, the curricular competencies describe the processes that students are expected to develop in areas of learning such as mathematics. They reflect the “Do” in the “Know-Do-Understand” model. Under the “Communicating” header falls the curricular competency “Explain and justify mathematical ideas and decisions.” Note that it contains two processes: “Explain mathematical ideas” and “Justify mathematical decisions.” I have broken it down into its separate parts in order to understand--or reveal--its meaning. The first part is commonplace in classrooms. By now, BC math teachers—and students—understand that “Explain mathematical ideas” means more than “Show your work.” Teachers consistently ask “What did you do?” and “How do you know?” This process is about retelling, not just of steps but of thinking. The second part happens less frequently. Think back to the last time that you observed a student make—a necessary precursor to justify—a mathematical decision. “Justify” is about defending. Like “explain,” it involves reasoning; unlike “explain,” it also involves opinion and debate. In order to reinterpret the curricular competency “Explain and justify mathematical ideas and decisions,” I will continue to take apart its constituent part “Justify mathematical decisions” and carefully examine the term “mathematical decisions.” What, exactly, is a “mathematical decision”? Below, I will categorize answers to this question. These categories, and the provided examples, may help to suggest new opportunities for students to justify.
