18. Two men went up into the temple to
pray, one a Pharisee and the other a
tax collector. The Pharisee, standing
by himself, prayed thus: God, I thank
you that I am not like other men,
extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or
even like this tax collector. I fast
twice a week; I give tithes of all that I
get.
19. But the tax collector, standing far
off, would not even lift up his eyes
to heaven, but beat his breast,
saying, God, be merciful to me, a
sinner! I tell you, this man went
down to his house justified, rather
than the other. For everyone who
exalts himself will be humbled, but
the one who humbles himself will be
exalted.

Repent = meta noe
meta = change
noe = mind/thoughts
Anything other than this IS NOT the GOSPEL
Many variations have popped up over the centuries, but this is the only Gospel we can have hope in
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand,2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you--unless you believed in vain.
Jesus isn’t just informing them.... he’s warning them
Today, I think the warning is still real, and for many of us here this morning
He gives God all the credit
He hasn’t stolen, he is a fair man all matters, he has never cheated on his wife!!
He fasts more than most, and tithes 20%
He sounds like a good man, we would all like in our church
Tax collectors are always back.... sellouts of their own people for personal gain
Begging for mercy and knows no posturing will get past the mind of God
He was justified because of his honestly about himself, and his understanding of the holiness of God
“yes, I’ve accepted Christ as Savior, so I’m a Christian. But I’m just not ready for him to be Lord of my entire life.”
In other words, they claim they can have faith in Jesus and be saved, and yet not repent of sin
That isn’t Biblical
Repentance is not “Worldly Sorry”
We feel bad, but we don’t change!!!!
Opposite of Repentance is GETTING CAUGHT
We’ve seen this play out in media with Presidents, Sports figures, and sadly pastors
“I’m sorry” has become cultural repentance, but it’s not biblical!!!

In a matter of time, continue the same behavior that made me feel bad

Know that God loves YOU, not some future version of you.
But you cannot stay the same
