The Florida Department of Education, who wrote Evolution ofEvolution of
Instructional MaterialsInstructional Materials said that effective materials include
certain components such as: instructional goals that are
flexible, up–to-date and well organized information,
appropriate reading level and vocabulary, effective layout,
multidisciplinary content and development of insight and
thinking skills.
I believe that teachers must work with the latest material,
and try to incorporate the use of technology to keep
students´ interest, since the world in changing day by day.
Also, flexibility is needed, in order to adapt the objectives to
the course necessities.

Begin with a literature review by the
author and the editorial staff.
Create prototypes and gather continual
feedback from teachers.
Much effort goes into supporting
alignment with standards.
4. Teacher´s Manual
Practicality: clear layout, easy, durable
and cheap.
Alignment: Content and activities align to
students materials.
Coverage: Enough content.
Readability: Easy to understand.
Methods: How students learn the subject.
Assessment: Ways of evaluating learning.
Management: Classroom organization.
5. Visual Presentation
Presentation: Research has shown that
firm lines are more important than
typeface in ease of reading.
Organization: Materials presented in
various media will be more effective than
conventional classroom instruction when
organized systematically.
6. Challenges
Controversies: Controversy arises because
of different beliefs about how best to
approach a specific subject area.
Inaccurate Content: Materials often do
not give topics the treatment they
deserve, contain factual errors or persist in
presenting disproved concepts.
7. Alignment of Instructional Materials
Alignment within Student Materials:
Alignment of content, learning activities,
tests, goals and objectives improves
learning.
Alignment within Teacher Materials:
Alignment of a teacher´s manual with
students activities of the content, sequence,
pacing, and procedures for teachers.
