- LibrarySearch – cross searches the catalogues for most of the libraries in University of Cambridge, remember some libraries have restricted membership Newton – use to search for books, journals and e-books in Classics, also to recall items and renew (via your account). UL: Electronic resources – best place to check for online journals Libraries Gateway – includes librarySearch, mobile apps etc COPAC – research libraries
- Web of Knowledge, citation indexes – range of subjects, you can use wildcards * for a range of results e.g. “Sparta*” [in topic] and Cartledge p* [in author] = @cam for Cambridge full text resources Also shows the number of times an article has been cited and this is useful for finding links to other articles of interest
- Bibliographic records for articles in over 1,500 periodicals related to classics. Volumes 1 to 80 (2010) of the printed version - searching is in English. It is NOT FULL TEXT but there are links to the Cambridge database to check for full text. If you register as a user there is an alerting service. Also provides full titles for journal abbreviations. e.g. Search “Denyer n” – tick the author from the list for resutls. If you click through on the entry for “case against divination” and hover over the journal abbreviation you will see the full title. In advanced search it is possible to enter the abbreviation under title search to obtain the full journal title.
- Perseus – Greek and Roman texts, dictionaries, grammars, translations (out of copyright), images art etc Packard Humanities Institute – PHI Disks – Greek including papyri; latin texts LLT – formally CETEDOC equivalent to Teubner Cds – database with texts from Latin lit from beginning to 1965. Patrologia Latina – works of the Church Fathers.
- Unicode input, Betacode, Greek transliteration – can no longer copy due to copyright breaches Search: Homer – Homerus Epic – select works – Ilias (check box) Search Selections Hector – EKTOR (betacode, translit), εκτ o ρ (ektor in greek), (EKTWR – other form (v= ω ) - Textual Search – 253 Hits Show search preferences – advanced – click AND 3 words near – ANDROF/ ανδροφ, (androf) (man-slaying epithet of Hector) = 11 results Browse to widen context See translation Link to Perseus – parse words etc Search more than one Author – use alphabetic list – retrieve Herodotus (hist) then go to authors S-T for Thucydides. Search for flute players (AULHT – betacode) or αυλητ (aylht) Greek Word Index for list of different forms etc Date searches
