2. specialist sport first aid kits.
sports professionals need specialized, individual first aid kits
to accompany them to inhibit injury, maintain peak fitness
and keep them performing at their best.
3. moving from the team to the individual.
traditionally sports professionals are assisted with their
medical needs by a team/club physiotherapist. my-sport kit.
aims to target individuals and create more awareness so
that players can properly treat themselves and also prevent
injuries before they occur.
4. researching player needs (sport specific).
strapping tape.
info booklet.
assorted bandages.
magnesium tablets.
energy sachets.
vaseline.
protein bars.
cooling gel.
instant ice packs.
dressings.
gloves.
scissors.
5. customer survey.
a customer survey is going to be conducted by contacting 5 sporting
clubs who engage in regular high intensity training and contact
situations to discuss with them the benefits of a specialised sport
kit, what they think of the idea and what they would like to have
included.
- rugby
- american football
- soccer
- hockey
- boxing
6. customer feedback part 1 .
the feedback received from the 5 sporting clubs is as follows:
rugby - berliner rugby club (my personal club) has limited
physio/medical assistance personnel and the club has shown support
for the my-sport kit saying that if it was priced reasonably (between $20-
30) and contained everything that was necessary for at least half a
season the majority of the players would buy the product.
american football -the new Yorker lions showed little interest in the
product and stated their players had substantial medical supplies from
sponsor asb braunschweig.
soccer -sc siemensstadt e.V showed support for the product and
provided great feedback in saying that I should use a website so they
can assemble their own my-sport kit. online. They also stated I should
arrange a sample kit and target school children starting out in sports
(reach the "soccer mums") to buy the product.
7. customer feedback part 2 .
boxing -unfortunately , I received no response from the boxing clubs
around berlin. I assumed that they had enough medical assistance due
to the nature of the sport and also regarded this as an unconvincing
market to target.
hockey -the tus lichterfelde hockey club gave a similar response to the
sc siemensstadt. they wanted to know if I had backing from high quality
medical suppliers as quality was a huge issue for them. great feedback
and I will look into getting in contact with top suppliers to get the latest
and greatest medical products.
the objective was to gain a better understanding of the current market for
this product and to see if the clubs could see an opportunity for
my product to be successful in their market. the feedback I received from
the 5 different sporting codes was positive and defintely gave me some
things to think about and add to the action items list.
8. opportunity analysis.
from the research undertaken, it has been found that amateur sporting
clubs will be targetted as opposed to professional sporting clubs. It was a
common understanding amongst the club members that in the berlin
area, amateur sporting clubs do not have adequate medical first aid
supplies to supplement the rigourous training sessions but usually have first
aid available on game day . therefore the opportunity lies therein to assist
this market so that players can apply medical aid personally during the
week and then combine their my-sport kit. with the kits that are available
on game day from the team physiotherapist. a website will be
developed that allows individuals to assemble and purchase their
customised my-sport kit. the amateur sport market is larger than the
professional sport market, however I will look to use professional
endorsement from famous sportspersons of each sport and have the
highest quality supplies so that I can be sure customers will re-buy the
product (ideally, the kits will last for a half season - and then customers will
be encouraged to buy refills on the website) and also spread the word. the
overall market size for my-sport kit. is difficult to decipher, but contains by
and large the entire amateur contact sport industry.
