It’s undeniable: vetting volunteers is essential in securing your nonprofit’s work. The way in which you vet volunteers is equally as important. It could make all the difference as to whether a volunteer is mistakenly screened or not. It’s one reason why we’re sharing positive volunteer screening experiences and other stories of how crises happened or were averted from peers in the field.

What volunteers want to do with their time, how they want to get involved and make a difference is changing. For many organizations this means that leaders of volunteer engagement are scrambling to re-think volunteer work what it means to be a volunteer in their organizations. Creating new opportunities for volunteers can be challenging - how do you create these new opportunities, how do gain buy-in from paid staff and existing volunteers, how do you know it's working? Join Carla Lehn, Library Programs Consultant for the California State Library and Beth Steinhorn, President of JFFIxler Group has they talk about what they've learned about transforming volunteer engagement programs. Beth will share lessons she's learned from engaging Boomers as volunteers and the importance of creating impact-driven opportunities, and Carla will share how she's transformed what it means to be a library volunteer and how she worked with paid staff to make this happen. Both Carla and Beth have written chapters in VolunteerMatch’s new book Volunteer Engagement 2.0: Ideas and Insights Changing the World. This book explores the innovative volunteer engagement approaches that are reshaping nonprofits and their communities, and shows how you can bring these approaches to your own organization.

By Idealware—People “like” you, but what is that actually doing to support your organization’s bottom line? We’ll talk critically about how you can move constituents up a ladder of engagement from a simple “like” to actually get them to do something for your organization. Ask a question, attend an event, volunteer and yes, even donate—it’s possible to get your constituents to do all of these things as a result of social media actions, but it’s not easy. Armed with case studies, industry research and plain old common sense and experience, we’ll work together to recalibrate your social media mindset in order to provide more value and cultivate a deeper commitment.

How people want to spend their volunteer time is changing. What volunteers are looking for today, and will be looking for tomorrow, is different from what volunteers wanted just a few years ago. Whether you're looking to invite volunteers into your organization or send employees out into the community as volunteers this session can help. 2015 VolunteerMatch Summit attendees learned how to design opportunities that provide the right experience for volunteers by rethinking the work (and the way it's talked about), focusing on the impact of the work, and thinking about the skills, experiences and characteristics of the "right" volunteer for the role.

Are the things you value and believe about volunteers reflected in your organization’s culture? Too often volunteers are thought of as a “nice to have” rather than a critical component to success. If there’s a lack of understanding of the real value volunteers bring to your organization, or if you want to consciously develop a culture that welcomes volunteers this workshop will help you work within your organization to create real inclusion and understanding of the work volunteers do.

Preventing headline news of social business antics is one reason executives hire Protiviti. The focus to prevent bad things from happening with social, however, often obscures hidden gems of Upside opportunity. The irony? Walking past the Upside is likely an even greater risk. We rethink downside risk to invent "The Reveal," that ppint in the consulting episode where a marvelous makeover is unveiled to delight the client. In this talk, we share a few cases of "Consulting: Impossible" where we reveal Upside opportunity side by side with that reduction in social business risk. Skills-based volunteering is increasingly popular among companies, but developing strong, effective skills-based partnerships with nonprofit organizations can be very challenging. Nonprofits can be unsure of the expertise they’re receiving and how much effort it will require from their typically capacity-constrained organization. Companies can be unsure of what specific skill or type of skills based volunteering would be of most benefit to the community and their employee-volunteers. By speaking to the “other side of the aisle”, both companies and nonprofits will better understand how to think about, message and launch their skills based initiatives. This session at the 2015 VolunteerMatch Summit brought together companies and nonprofits who want to take that second step with their skills-based volunteer programs, through a fun, interactive speed dating session. Companies had the chance to hear what services would be particularly helpful to nonprofits in their communities – and nonprofits had a chance to “pitch” their skills-based project in a low-risk, low-pressure environment and get feedback on what will make their project even more attractive to potential corporate partners.

A unique anti-inflammatory drug Colchicine has been isolated from a Nigeria medicinal plant called Physostigma venenosium The structure was established using NMR spectroscopy of 1H and 13C, Cosy, and DEPT In combination with IR. The ethanol extract of the plant seed was partitioned to get the chloroform, water, methanol and pet-either fractions. The chloroform fraction, from which colchicines was isolated was discovered to contain the highest number of compounds with wide range of Rf values on TLC result.. The result supports the use of the plant seeds for the treatment of phantom tumor and conjunctival inflammation.

We work hard at building our blogs and growing our social media networks. Most of us strive to provide good content and engage with our readers. We might even earn some cash from time to time from our blogs and social media channels. Why? Because readers, brands and public relations companies understand that our words mean something. That people are listening to what we have to say. Imagine what kind of change we can make in the world if we used our social media influence for social good. Not only do we empower our readers to become advocates for the causes they care for, we also feel good about giving back. If you have a blog and/or are active in social media, you can use your influence to spread some good. It’s easier than you think. And, no, it doesn’t involve donating lots of time and money. In this webinar, hosted by Sverve, Jennifer Barbour, chief engagement officer of Another Jennifer Blog + Writing Lab, discussed: • Why social good deserves space in your social media channels • Choosing a cause to write about and support • Way to promote social good on your blog / social media • Getting your readers involved with social good • Social good networks to join • Measuring your impact

This webinar was created by Constant Contact and nonprofit expert John Haydon. There has never been a more important time to master nonprofit fundraising. Nonprofits need to know how to craft a compelling pitch that tugs on the heartstrings and the purse strings. To do that effectively, you must know how to communicate with the right supporters at the right time before, during, and after fundraising events. We’ll show you how to do that in a more organized and efficient way. This SlideShare will show you how email can help you stay in contact with your supporters when it matters most.

Communication is Dead. Right? What does it mean to say that communication is dead? Surely this can’t be true? Let’s take a closer look… Part of the philosophy behind what we do at POMO is the idea that certain types of communication are now in a state of decline and because of this, a new form of communication is emerging – what we call engagement. Take one example – the newspaper industry. It’s a fact that the newspaper publishing industry is shrinking globally. As Christopher Zara says of the situation in Amercia, “the hemorrhaging of advertising revenue has been the greatest challenge for newspaper publishers. According to the Newspaper Association of America, or NAA, total advertising revenues have declined by more than 50 percent in just five years, going from $49.3 billion in 2006 to $23.9 billion last year.” [2011] We believe that underlying this decline is a recognition by marketers that today there are more effective ways to communicate a message than placing an ad in a newspaper. Newspaper ads are, generally speaking, a classic example of a one-way communication. TV ads are another. Both reach a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds with many different interests. It is often only a small fraction of these people who may be interested in the message contained in the ad and a smaller fraction still who are motivated to act because of it. Marketers have realised that there are far more effective ways to pinpoint markets and deliver messages to people who are genuinely interested. In our video about engagement we state that the audience has been replaced by the individual. Communities of individuals who we know and understand are ready to engage with brands in ways that were simply not possible just a few years ago. Our philosophy at POMO is that one way communication is dead. Customer engagement is everything. Create, engage, succeed. This is published by POMO – a creative agency specializing in customer engagement based in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, Queensland Australia
