2. Cells All living things have cells. A shoe does not have cells. An elephant has cells.
3. DNA and/orRNA The same basic ingredients are in all living things. (DNA or RNA) A boat has no DNA or RNA. A dog has DNA.
4. Reproduce and Grow Every living thing has to reproduce and grow. A refrigerator does not reproduce or grow. A human reproduces and grows.
5. Moving All living things move. A pole can not move by itself. A cheetah is able to move.
6. Responding All living things can respond to their habitat and surroundings. Brick can not respond to anything. A cat can respond to its surroundings and habitat.
7. Limited Life Spans Living things can not live forever therefore they have limited life spans A table can not die. A pig has to die at some point.
8. Repairing Injuries Living things are able to fix there injuries. A piano can not fix its injuries. A bird can fix its injuries.
9. Changing over time to survive Over time living things can change. A chair doesn’t change. Humans have changed over time.
10. Water and Energy Living things have to have water and energy. A sidewalk does not need water or energy. A flower needs water and energy.
