This document discusses blending hip-hop, math, and technology in education. It describes using an online learning platform called Moodle to provide course materials and activities to engage students. Students completed weekly lessons and activities on Moodle. The document also discusses using hip-hop as an educational tool, such as using rap lyrics to study history and economics. Lessons learned included that students embrace technology, especially when they can express themselves, and that lessons need to be clearly connected to prior instruction.

13. Lessons Learned
• Students will embrace technology … especially when there is a
space for them to express their individuality (personal profiles,
pics, blog, chat)
• Provides a good opportunity to ‘academic-ize’ the use of
computers
• Emailing attachments
• Effective search techniques
• Lessons must be mapped to prior instruction … students do not
connect abstracts dots online
• Avoid multiple choice . . . They don’t mind being wrong and it
doesn’t give you info on accuracy of response
• Including pop culture or local names/places personalizes the
experience
• Always include a writing component . . . Stress the need for
consistency on online and in class writing.
