The tiger, one of the most magnificent
animals in the world, is also one of the
most endangered.

A cat of beauty, strength, and majesty, the
tiger is master of all and subject to none --
except humans.

Of the eight original subspecies of
tigers, three have become extinct within the
last 60 years.
Tigers are wild animals and they have to stay in
  their original habitat that are
 Jungels
 Hills
 Evergreen Forest
• The Indian tiger, also called as the
Royal Bengal tiger, is one of the
  most fascinating animals found in
  India.

• The tiger is the largest living
  member of the cat family.

• The ears of tigers are black on the
outside and have a prominent white
  spot on them.

      Diversity Pride
All living things have a right to
live on this Earth but, we,
  very often become, totally,
 insensitive to their pain, only
  because animals can’t speak
 the language of humans, they
        don’t have a voice
    All Animals deserve our
    kindness and respect.
India's population of wild tigers, which wildlife experts
have long warned is on the decline, is dramatically
lower than previously believed.

India is continuously experiencing deflation in the
                  population of tigers.

The initial results of the study, conducted over the
past two years by the government-run Wildlife
Institute of India, found that the tiger population
in some states may be nearly 65 percent less than
                  experts had thought.
• The tiger is an endangered species. Poaching for
fur and body parts and destruction of habitat
  have simultaneously greatly reduced tiger
  populations in the world.
• At the start of the 20th century, it is estimated
there were over 100,000 tigers in the world but
that the population has dwindled outside of
captivity to between 1,500 and 3,500
WWF is one example of the associations
to protect tigers. These type of
associations prepare the arrangement for
saving tigers and prevent deforestation.

Over the last 36 years, WWF has
engaged with various
stakeholders, including local
communities, the Forest
Department, other Government
agencies, trying to find a common way
forward to lend support to
conservation of wild tigers.
• To save the falling number of tigers in India, Project
Tiger was started in the year 1973.
• Though there has been increase in the number of
tigers in India but the increase does not
commensurate the efforts made in this field.
• Some of the important Project Tiger reserves in
India are the Corbett National Park, Kanha National
Park, Sariska National Park, Sunderbans National
  Park, etc.
