The Brookhaven Ambulance Department is
pleased to offer Family and Friends CPR to
interested South Country Central School
District residents. This free of charge course
will not certify you in CPR but it will give you
enough information to save a loved one and
prepare you for what to do and to look for if

class is limited to 6 students. A second class
will be added on November 18 if needed.

NEW YORK DRIVER’S SAFETY COURSE

A representative from Empire Safety Council will
be here to present their 6 hour class, recognized
by all New York State insurance companies, which
can help you reduce your auto collision and
liability insurance rates by 10%. If you have
incurred violations during the 18 month period
prior to completing the course, up to four points
will automatically be reduced on your driving
record. There is no formal exam. A fee of $27 will

National Grandparents Day
Infants-Grade 2 with a Grandparent
Sunday, Anytime 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Celebrate this special relationship by reading one of our
pre-selected stories together. We’ll video tape you or pho-
tograph the session. Your choice and then e-mail you a copy.
When you are finished reading, make a commemorative magnet of
the book you read together. Call the Children’s Desk at 286-1923
to make your 15 minute appointment.
OCTOBER 12 - Annual
Scarecrow Contest
Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
One of our favorite
annual family events
is back! The Library will
provide a scarecrow frame
and stuffing to each family that
signs up. You bring the clothes, fin-
ished head and any accessories and most
importantly your imagination. Judges will
present ribbons for all who participate
and one scarecrow will be declared
“Best in Show”. Refreshments
will be served. If we must cancel
due to rain, scarecrow frames
will be made available to
registered families who
would like to build their
scarecrow at home. Please

OCTOBER 19 - Guide Dog Foundation Talk
All families are welcome.

Diane Robuffo, a volunteer
from the Guide Dog
Foundation is excited
to share what it’s like to raise a service dog and answer
questions about how families can get involved. We must
have 30 people registered for Diane to present this pro-
gram. Please register each person in your family who
would like to attend by calling the children’s desk at 286-
1923. Out of District residents are welcome to attend.
NOVEMBER 16 - Annual Children’s Bake-Off
Grades K-8
Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
The Annual Children’s Bake-Off is a Brookhaven
Free Library tradition that stems back over 20
years. Children will compete by making baked
goods from scratch in one of 3 categories: Cakes,
Pies or Cookies. A first place trophy is awarded
to the best entry in each age group based on taste,
appearance, creativity and difficulty. Ribbons are award-
ed to all participants. Entry forms and a full list of rules
will be available at the library beginning October 1.
