 Title: Communicating With Kylee
 Description: Communicating with individuals with hearing
impairments can sometimes be rather frustrating. Knowing
the right things to say and how to say it may just be the
answer. This webquest will teach children how to
communicate with children who have hearing impairments
either within the classroom or in everyday life.
 Grade Level: K-2

Introduction
 You are about to learn the ins and outs of
communicating with the hearing impaired. Along with
sign language, you will learn how to communicate with
the hearing impaired the best way possible. Have fun
with each task and remember it’s a learning
experience!
Task
 For each day during the week you will complete a task that covers
the basis of what you need to know to communicate with
individuals who have a hearing impairment. After completing these
tasks you are to write a story about having a friend who is hearing
impaired and how you would communicate with him or her. Try to
complete each task to the best of your ability and Good Luck!
 Day 1: Learn Why!
 Day 2: Everyday Signs
 Day 3: How to write in ASL
 Day 4: Closed Captions
Process
 Day 1: Watch the story on Kylee to understand why we
are learning how to communicate with each other
better.
 Day 2: Watch the Video of the Everyday Signs to learn
some new signs.
 Day 3: Read the Article on ASL grammar.
 Day 4: Watch clips without the sound and try to read
the closed captions to see how hearing impaired
individuals watch tv and movies.

Conclusion
 Congratulations! You completed all the tasks for the
week. I hope you have learned something through this
experience and what it really means to be able to
communicate with the hearing impaired. This webquest
will help us all have knowledge about what is right and
wrong when communicating.

knowing what its like to be deaf. The webquest should
take about 4 days give or take and should help
students have a better understanding about individuals
with hearing impairments.

Webquest

  • 2. Welcome  Title: Communicating With Kylee  Description: Communicating with individuals with hearing impairments can sometimes be rather frustrating. Knowing the right things to say and how to say it may just be the answer. This webquest will teach children how to communicate with children who have hearing impairments either within the classroom or in everyday life.  Grade Level: K-2  Curriculum: Language  Author: Amber Cunningham
  • 3. Introduction  You are about to learn the ins and outs of communicating with the hearing impaired. Along with sign language, you will learn how to communicate with the hearing impaired the best way possible. Have fun with each task and remember it’s a learning experience!
  • 4. Task  For each day during the week you will complete a task that covers the basis of what you need to know to communicate with individuals who have a hearing impairment. After completing these tasks you are to write a story about having a friend who is hearing impaired and how you would communicate with him or her. Try to complete each task to the best of your ability and Good Luck!  Day 1: Learn Why!  Day 2: Everyday Signs  Day 3: How to write in ASL  Day 4: Closed Captions
  • 5. Process  Day 1: Watch the story on Kylee to understand why we are learning how to communicate with each other better.  Day 2: Watch the Video of the Everyday Signs to learn some new signs.  Day 3: Read the Article on ASL grammar.  Day 4: Watch clips without the sound and try to read the closed captions to see how hearing impaired individuals watch tv and movies.

  • 11. Conclusion  Congratulations! You completed all the tasks for the week. I hope you have learned something through this experience and what it really means to be able to communicate with the hearing impaired. This webquest will help us all have knowledge about what is right and wrong when communicating.
