No matter whether it is private cloud, a managed or hosted cloud, or someone else’s third party delivered cloud, an organization must have an effective service management strategy to deploy an optimized cloud-delivered service. The service management implementation must be able to manage the workflow, provisioning, de-provisioning, monitoring and metering of the environment to ensure performance, stability, resiliency, reliability, security and end user satisfaction.
Cloud Computing is relevant to every major division within IBM, including software, servers, storage and services. To coordinate our efforts, we are focusing our efforts in three areas. Private Cloud represents the largest cloud opportunity today. A recent IBM Academy study of enterprise clients found a 70/30 split in their current private and public deployments. IBM is viewed as a market leader in the private cloud space and has worked with hundreds of clients including France Telecom on virtualization, Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi on Desktop and Nedbank on development and test. Infrastructure & Platform services represent a standardized, self-service catalog of services that allow clients to quickly access the infrastructure resources needed for mission critical applications and processes. IBM has launched these services in US and Europe and will be expanding to Asia and Canada in the coming months. Business Services represents IBM’s expanding portfolio of cloud based collaborative and business applications. Through acquisitions and organic development, IBM is already among the largest SaaS providers in the world and growing. ******************************************************************************************** FYI on Sterling, Coremetrics and Unica.... 1. Planned channel availability in Passport Advantage SWG ordering system: Sterling = April; Coremetrics = July; Unica = April 2. All three will require SW Authorization under the SVP Program in order to resell (not "open" distribution). 3. There is expected to be a SaaS version of Sterling Commerce and Unica and there is a cloud business solution for Coremetrics . 4. Training and enablement is currently through their respective own sites. As with other acquisitions, expect their training and enablement offerings to fold into the IBM Education and Certification system. We saw that with Lombardi (BlueWorks Live) and CastIron for example. They both have training commercially available to partners. For now, see... Coremetrics University , Sterling Commerce Training , Unica Education Services Summary: the Business Solutions offerings of Coremetrics, Sterling and Unica are targeted for availability in Q2 in PA for resale by Authorized Partners.
