1. Top 6 Restaurants
in Strasbourg

One of the best cities
for food in France,
and certainly one of
my favorites, is
Strasbourg. Located
near the German
border, the region
has adopted many
delicious influences
from its neighbor,
including sweet
onions and flavored
sauerkraut. For
drinks, you have to try the local Rieslings and Tokay Pinot Gris, or the freshly
brewed Heineken and Kronenbourg.
While most guidebooks will steer your towards the four big restaurant names
(Buerehisel, Au Crocodile, Julien, and Vieille Enseigne), there are plenty of other
establishments well worth your time. Here are a few of my favorites.
1. L’Ancienne Douane - a Strasbourgian instutition, it’s just the place to get
a tarte flambee, a staple of Alsatian cuisine. It’s a thin, crispy pastry smothered in
creme fraiche, onions, cheese, ham, and mushrooms–kind of like a pizza, but
infinitely more delicious! Come during the summer to get a seat on the riverside
terrace.
2. Maison Des Tanneurs - Located in the most photographed 16th century
house in France, the food is refreshingly authentic, unpretentious, and delicious,
2. and the clientele surprisingly local. You won’t leave hungry with these generous
portions.
3. Le Festin De Lucullus - An inventive and delicious mix of modern French
cuisine and local traditions and produce.
4. Restaurant Au Petit Bois Vert - Small bar and bistro located on a gorgeous
riverbank.
5. Le Panier Au Marche - Alsatian influence with an Asian twist at an affordable
price. Make sure to book in advance though!
6. Art Cafe @ Musee D’Art Moderne – Connected to the modern art museum,
this chic dining room is open for brunch, light lunch, and dinner. Come for the
beautiful view and artistically-named dishes, stay for the hearty meals.
