Lets get started
Every search that I show, you can do the same search and see similar results...
There will be possibly some variation depending on where you are searching from.
3. This is the general layout of a Google search page
http://www.onlinemarketing.net.nz Multiple Results on Google - 1st Page
4. From here I'll step you through some searches from what most of us do,
through to a very targeted search for “what I want, near where I live”
Here you can see I've searched for 'Marine Transmissions'
Google knows I'm in 'Auckland' but I'm searching 'the web' for 'everything'
(see the marked boxes above).
The search results here show ads from USA, AUST and NZ along with websites from
USA and New Zealand, is that what you really want?
http://www.onlinemarketing.net.nz Multiple Results on Google - 1st Page
5. Now we're becoming more targeted.
This search is again for marine transmissions, but this time it
is 'everything' in 'New Zealand' as labelled
The Results show ads from companies that want to advertise in New Zealand,
and natural results from well optimised websites
from New Zealand businesses
Is this getting closer to a search a YOU may want?
http://www.onlinemarketing.net.nz Multiple Results on Google - 1st Page
6. Now even more targeted....
The same search term but included within inverted commas ie “marine transmissions”.
Again I've used 'everything' in 'New Zealand' as labelled.
This time Google is only searching for websites that have the exact phrase 'marine transmissions'
on the web page. This can be more important on some searches and not so much on others.
Do both when you are searching.
The main difference here is how Google has filtered out some of the ads. Because
companies have not 'set up' or been willing to pay for the exact term searched for.
The next page is where it gets even better

7. Google has put about 50 million businesses on to Google maps
Again the same search but I have added a location 'Auckland', left it on 'everything' and 'the web'
so Google is looking for everything it can find on - marine transmissions Auckland.
This time we have a map showing where the company is. Great for looking for a product close to where
you are. Google has also found the company website, a directory and in this case a
couple of videos that relate to 'marine transmissions Auckland'.
You can click on 'place page' next to the map and go to a web page about that specific company, which is
not the company website.
Would this make it easier for you to find a service or business?

8. As Google has changed so have the search pages
To show you some of the Google changes the search term has changed to
'picture framing auckland', again 'everything' and 'the web'.
The results here show a localised map on the right, above the ads showing businesses involved in 'picture framing' in
Auckland. In the natural searches we now see red balloons that relate to positions on the map.
Clicking on the top link of every search will take you to the company website...
clicking on place page will take you to the Google Business Listing.
Does this make finding 'picture framing' close to you even better?
http://www.onlinemarketing.net.nz Multiple Results on Google - 1st Page
9. Again it gets even better
But often 'Auckland' is still too generic and does cover a very large area.
We localised the search even more in this case 'Ponsonby'
all the other settings are the same.
The results are now concentrated on companies that do picture framing in or around Ponsonby
and has a selection of both std web pages, 2 directories and
Google Business listings (Google labels them Places listings)
If you live in Ponsonby looking for picture framing you'd be pretty happy
But it gets better.
http://www.onlinemarketing.net.nz Multiple Results on Google - 1st Page
10. This is exactly the same search as previous page but
but I've now chosen places from the L/H column
This search has removed all std websites and only given us the businesses that do
picture framing in Ponsonby and have a
Google Business Listing.
You can either check the company website or the actual places page.
Doing this search will save you both time and fuel costs
and show you how to get there.

11. Here's a few more useful searches below
Search exactly as is (+) Sunrise & Sunset
By attaching a + immediately before a word (remember, don't add a space after To see the precise times of sunrises and sunsets for many worldwide cities, type
the +), you are telling Google to match that word precisely as you typed it. "sunrise" or "sunset" followed by the city name.
Putting double quotes around a single word will do the same thing.
Terms you want to exclude (-)
You can exclude as many words as you want by using the - sign in front of all of
them, for example[ jaguar -cars -football -os ]. The - sign can be
used to exclude more than just words Unit Conversion
You can use Google to convert between many different units of measurement,
height, weight, and volume among many others. Just enter your desired
conversion into the search box and we’ll do the rest.
Currency Conversion
To use our built-in currency converter, simply enter the conversion you’d like
done into the Google search box and we’ll provide your answer directly on
the results page.
Calculator
To use Google's built-in calculator function, simply enter the calculation you'd
like done into the search box.
