Climate change
Climate change is a long-term change in weather patterns over decades or longer that is caused by both natural factors and human activities that increase greenhouse gas emissions. Greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane trap heat in the lower atmosphere and at the Earth's surface, causing global temperatures to rise. The majority of carbon dioxide emissions come from burning fossil fuels for electricity, transportation, buildings, and industry as well as deforestation. If greenhouse gas emissions continue to increase, global average temperatures are projected to rise between 1-7 degrees Celsius by the end of the century, causing sea level rise and changes in weather patterns with consequences for plants, animals, and agriculture worldwide.
